updated the gearbox one to add some extra boxes i found info for.
also the top speed power is added. the cD for the calibra was something like 0.3.. i estimated the nova to be 0.34 etc.
Basically its to give you a clue as to how much power is required at the wheels to overcome drag and hit X speed. you can add a desired top speed and it will tell you how much (roughly) power you will need to do it.

i did have a link in the usefull links section but ive since updated the little site.

appologies for the popups, it is free php hosting lol

what the frontal area of a nova then?

i dont know...... either use the estimation that its next to the frontal area (for the record * means multiply.... mig got that little bit confused) or measure it lazy mofo :p

thing is do you measure from bottom of front panel up to bonnet or do you go upto roof hight??

Stuart

floor to roof..
Or if your being a tart you could work out the area of the front that isnt in the air etc. remember this is purely for ESTIMATION (can be accurate though if you get the right info)

floor to roof on a standard car is 135 cm apparently, so lower it abit and minus the front panel to floor im gonna say 119cm. so therefore 1.19*1.72*0.9 = 1.842. and with the and the cd of 0.34 and 200bhp you should be able to get 165mph :) sweet

that is an assumed cD of 0.34.. might be a little higher for a nova (and add the wheels that stick below the pannel etc.)

oh and power at the wheels ;) as the site says

crap forgot them but the again my hight below front panel is only an estimate anyway. and with those figures it recons you want about 360 to do 200mph

Stuart

the basic rule of thumb is if you want to double the speed you need to quadruple the power output

na that not true surely, the noddy car only does 100mph and has 70 bhp, so your telling me ish the if it had 280bhp it could do 200mph

note the words "general rule of thumb" ;)
plus gearing wont be favourable for it in the hova.

or have engineers got it wrong for years............. :p
:wall: feck this has been hard work between you and mig dragging down the average IQ of the UK lol

Cool site stuart :thumb:
As said on Mig, the top speed calc theory tally's with my real world findings pretty damn closely +/- 2mph if i remember right. 154mph in a 1.6 :D

takes bloody ages to get there tho lol

Noddy's hat would blow off at 100mph - at 200mph I reckon he would get sucked out of the driving seat lol
Stu - Your calcs worked a treat for both my Nova and GTI-6 and I know what the top speed is in the 6 because i've been there :thumb:
