if your reallyl lucky you might have 100bhp from that.. and id assume its a big block engine so its all the same work as a 2.0 16V... if your on a budget then fit a 1.6 gte/gsi engine in as that will be 100bhp and a really easy swap.

well i already got the cav for ?100 quid .
i take it there is somewhere i can buy engine mounts and drive shafts for it ?
then ill use the brakes from the cav and weigh the rest in !

Ive got the 1.8 8v lump in my nova from a CAV. Its the Carb not the injection lump and with some work, its running bout 160bhp. Sounds nice too :)

GTE 22 spline shafts

F16 box

same mods to engine bay as XE has to have...

Simple......Not

You want the front engine mount from a 2.0 8V, some spacers and it will fit

tbh the effort of fitting it etc you might as well not bother! you would be far better off putting in a 1.6i engine (mpi) from another car perferably a nova as everything is a straight swap. as stu says the amount of work involved in fitting a 1.8 big block you might as well put in a 2ltr 16v!!
sell the cav and buy a gte/gsi engine, you could even get away with using ur existing nova g/box

Trouble is its my everyday car so need to get it done asap because this walking around lark is killing me !
plus if i fit the 1.8 now all the work is allready done for a 16v in the future ???

dreadfully slow in a Cav. as says much more sense to use a Nova GTE engine. Multi point injection etc.

1.8 should be economical (for its size) but other wise a waste of time. 2.0 8v (NE) would be as cheap & more worth while tbh.

as for doing the work now saving doing it later. if your ona tight budget then the converion will probably be a bit of a bodge. its your call i guess but personally id replace with either the same as is in now, or the 1.6 mpi engine

tried finding a gsi/gte engine but no luck !wont be a show winner but wont be bodged badly !im having it seam welded properly at work ! i know its not an ideal engine choice but if it keeps my baby rolling so be it !

A 1.4SRi engine, cheap tax, cheaper insurance than 1.8, straight swap,

would probably peform the same if not better than the 1.8SPi, due to less weight.
A 1.8i is only about 90bhp, and is loads of work to fit.

Lol.
Ye, but he doesn't have a set of new Twin weber 45s, Kent cam etc.
And he doesn't want a fire in the engine bay when trying to get the carbs running lol
