This has only happened to me once, but mum complains of this problem fairly regularly. When waiting in traffic before the engine has warmed up fully, it'll cut out, straight out, no spluttering or prior indication like you get when it needs more/less choke. So I'm guessing the problem is electrical, but where should i start?
Its a 1.2 carb, untuned.
Its probably just something to do with the choke.
Is the choke on or off when it does it?

It'll be on when it does it for mum I expect, it was off when it did it to me. It'd been running for 10 mins or so, and sat still for about 2, still running.
Probably too much choke flooding the engine, causing it to bog down and stall.
Probably start with about half a choke, and as soon as the engine will run without it, turn it completely off.
Altho, manual chokes do my head in, i've only ever drove one car with a manual choke, dads old mk3 escort, and i couldn't keep the engine running whether warm or cold lol

When I started driving it I stalled it many a time by giving it too much choke, this is different, its as if the ignition was turned off.
Could be something like the coil playing up, that can cause it to just cut straight out.

Ok, thanks mate :).
Is it likely that it only plays up when its cold, or more likely that when its at higher rpm we don't notice?
When i had a faulty coil, it only played up when it was warm.
Does the engine start straight back up after its cut out?

Yes it does.
It probably aint the coil then,Lol.
