I am going to be selling the Nova and buying one of these within then next year,

What does everyone think of them?

I realy like them black, tinted windows, nice wheels, tint the rear lights black and it will be v.nice and ohh yeah 133bhp out of the factory easily tuned to 150bhp :) no problems at all.

Good fun. Be carefull of fuel though. Think they are sensitive to the RON. A friend of a friend has got a stunning one as per your description.

Had it especially imported, after a month of owning it. It was coughing, spluttering & detonating etc.

Resulting in a req engine rebuild

I always run on optimax anyway my old man has 2 jap cars (evo4 and evo2 track car) so he has got me liking jap cars and using optimax.

Anyone know what insurance group they are in people say it varies?

What does your mates go like?

Cheers

Used to go well by all accounts. As said, friend of a friend.

He said his XE (valver) Nova would have 'had it' though!!

Rather nice. Shame they didn't put the 4E-FTE into the 4wd ones tho  As they're Japanese they're probably used to running on 101ron fuel as well lol

GTTs are all imports so expect insurance to be silly.

Still, prefer the look of them and the Glanzas to the Pulsars

Why is import insurance so high. Mate of mine (same age) 27 has got a 300ZX & is only paying ?450 fc IIRC.

Thats not expensive & I wasnt aware we were getting a good deal for being over 25 these days..

Usually import insurance is considerably more expensive than equivalent UK car insurance. Some places won't even insure imports, or won't insure them for a certain age range of customer.

Last year I was quoted for a Supra, ST205, S14a, and 3000GT, both UK and Jap specs. UK prices came out about ?700-950 (yes expensive but that was at 22 with FC and business use!); whilst Jap prices (with the exception of the ST205) were around ?1700. Apparently its to do with replacement courtesy cars, availability of parts, history, higher performance (yet the UK Supra is listed as 320bhp to the import's 280...) etc etc - basically an excuse for the insurance company to charge more and get away with it.

I currently pay ?600 fully comp with business use on my faff (a relatively cheap to insure jap turbo car), and I think an import would be around ?150-200ish more, depending on insurer. Not much in terms of amount, but %-wise its a fair shift.

Hopefully when I'm 27 i'll be paying around the ?450 region too lol

Dont they say the import cars arent up to brittish build standards? Im sure I have heard that before.

Jack

Probably. Funny, as most are built side by side in the same factory, thats definately the case with the ST205s. I hardly think a different steering wheel design, rear number plate surround and front splitters is going to make a difference

Jack

They're FWD with a few Jap non-turbos being 4WD. I think the rrreeeaaaallly old 70's ones might be rwd...

To get 340bhp out of a 1.3 it must have some very serious mods if you can get that much power from one, I am not saying it does not have that much power I am just wondering how?

Jack

IIRC you can buy an off-the-shelf kit that puts them around 300bhp...!

What does that contain then? the intercooler isnt front mounted on that one so it cant be that big or efficent even with the bonnet vent.

I am assuming the engine internals must be forged to handle the amount of boost the must run?

Jack

Not sure but I know it involves a lot of work including fmic and possibly a different bottom end....

Has the discussion last time posted pics of this car...

Owner has about 3 RR print outs all from different rollers.

I am not 100% sure on full spec as i never built it but i have seen the reciepts for most parts inside and have serviced it and other work etc.

Basic spec is..
FMIC
Acralyte pistons (spelling lol)
Worked head
Cam
Nitrous (iirc 75 shot but not 100% sure)
Uprated Turbo (will find out which one)
Custom Exhaust right through from turbo
Different injectors again not sure which ones

It is front mounted then, but the number plate is stoping most of the air from flowing into it so I cant see it being much better than the standard one not being funny
