i am fitting t40s to a 1.6 gsi i have read all of the post on this and i just want to make sure i have got it right:
.do I bypass fuel pump at back of car and put a low pressure pump on either the bulkhead? or do i replace the current pump in the same place?
.or put a carb pump on

i think you can just bolt a regulator on with the gsi pump id check though. block off the fuel return
You could keep the GSI pump, with a regulator.
so that would work ok. is there eney gains to having a low pressure pump?
No.
Just keep the electric GSI pump wired, then with an adjustable pressure regulator in the engine bay.

Will the fuel pressure regulator be able to hold the high pressure from the mpi pump?
If you get a proper fuel pressure regulator, then it should be fine.

looks like thats what you need. A standard regulator won't be able to handle 3 bar from an mpi pump.
