Im rebuilding a C14Se with headwork and t40's. When i come to put the head back on how do i get the timing right because im having a c am and using a 1300 cam housing because it has a dizzy and is right for my loom. do i have the mark on the bottom pully and cam pully aligned at 12 o clock or one oppopsite the other vertically? When renewing piston rings how much should i key the bores to bed the rings in because i dont want to shag the rings straight away.
Cheers

Have you got a haynes manual? all the info you need is in there, there was a similar post a few weeks ago if you want to search for it.

Yeah, cant find anything on it. All it says is how to take apart and rebuild then says removal is same as fitting.... Maybe ive missed something

Look for cambelt removal and refitting, the timing marks are explained in that section. Might be a good idea to read the whole engine section, you might remember how to do something else when it comes to it then, thats what i've done, must have read the entire manual about 20 times now.

no it should be towards the front of the engine, sticking out from just above the oil pump

the bottom 1 should point at bout ten past sumit like that and if it is right no 1 piston should b at very top, the cam pully the mark should b at 12 o clock with the mark on the cover. and the rotor arm in the dissy should b at no 1 plug if i am right. that help?

The crank sprocket should point straight down(it has a arrow on), the crank pulley has a notch on it that aligns with the cambelt cover mark.
The cam sprocket has a mark that points straight up.
When no1 is at TDC.

A pic of my bottom pulley when lined up, viewed from the front of the car, looking down;

I'll always ignored the ignition pointer. But the crankshaft pulley itself should be facing straight down like at 6 o clock, there is a marking on the case. The reason why some ppl align with the ignition point is that the altenator pully sits over the crankshaft but its at a different angle. Also its set in a groove which can be dangerous cause it can easily slip out and you've aligned the pulley wrong because of that.
So your best bet is to first align the crankshaft pully itself. Then fit the altenator pulley. Hope this makes sense

Yep.
Make sure the crank is set to tdc then fit the pulley back on, making sure it sits in its slot properly. If its sitting properly its mark with the cambelt cover pointer should align.
