Front quater Windows

Hi All
Has anyone got any ider on how to remove the
small window in the door and the main window.
Also which car to get the replacemet door glass so it is one large moving window .

Has anyone done this yet ?

One problem with it though....the windows are fixed...hence, they can't be wound down!

I posted about this a while back (just after the PCC show at Billing where I saw that GTE) and I got an e-mail form a lad who claimed to know the owner.
He told me that the windows don't wind down, and that the owner would NEVER tell where the glass came from :(

I'm still going to try and do it my self on my old spare door to see if you can make 'em wind down...I've just had soooo many more important things to do!

Some one on here said they were trying to find a way to do it, but no ones mentioned it since :-/

I would like to try to lower the roof by 4 to 6in but the QUARTER-LIGHTS r a big problem

Perspex windows? you can cut them to ant size you want.

Ive been told that u can get the windows made out of perspex, but as some1 said u will not open.

I dont give a shit as im tryin to do it to. like most other people by the sounds of it.

Mine will open fully and electrically (couldnt bear ot having leccy windows!!!!!)-no point in doing it otherwise....

Hello every1. I'm on my m8's username. I can't believe so many people are goin on about my window conversion!

Basically you're all wrong! :p

It is not a Mk1 Astra, or a Peugeot 205, or a Golf Mk2, they're not perspex, and none of you are ever gonna guess.

I told Dave P ages ago but he must have forgot. I was asked at Billing and Trax i think i told a couple of other people just to get them off my back.

Anyway i sold my GTE bout a month ago. I did have them workin but the manual winder got in the way of the inside door handle.
So i took the winders off while i tried gettin the electric kit, which was what i wanted to start with.
U can't use the original mech u see.

I ran out of time i was 2 busy to finish them off so that's why they weren't working. It is possible to do and it's easier to have them electric than manual cos the mech position isn't as critical.

Right then you lot, all you need to is get yourself down the scrappy and get the windows, whole mechanism and rubber seals out of....

I would like to know freak-Im looking at doing another nova sometime,and would maybe go for it if its easy enough-from what I can make out,once u have the glass n that,all u need to do is get the mechs sorted?-surely u need to shorten some of the rubbers etc?

Bob....you also have to cut away some metal from the door (cross-braces that are under the quarter-lights) to allow the glass to wind down.

I'm still gonna try it on my old door. Someone else will beat me to it though...that's for sure. I've got my cold starting prob to sort first :( Priorities!

Them smelly bits netween the windows have allways rajed me off. The windows look much better as one full unit. Wouldnt mind a set, but

1 - really cant be bothered
2 - got to get my car in one working piece before i worry about them kind of things lol :D

Anyway i'll tell u all i want 2 see if any of u can get them working properly.

Rich.dale is right about having 2 cut the channel brackets off, they're only spot welded on so just use a chisel and big hammer.

Anyway the windows are out of a METRO!!!

Remember u need the rubbers and mech's as well. And u heard it from me first O.K?

Well the fact that a metro parks opposite my house every nite and i checked it out ages ago might have something to do with it.

Metro glass isnt the only one you can use though....

I was at some traffic lights yesterday and a metro pulled up at the side of me so i looked across and sure enough... the windows are exactly the right size and shape...
obviously i cant say exactly coz from looking form 3 feet away you cant tell that... but def. very near anyway... cant believe nobody could figure it out now.

err i knew ages ago cause someone forgot to get non etched glass :D and i checked the Y reg reg plate that was on the glass in that gte and it came back as being a metro HL :p
