i have a j-reg 1991 nova 1.2 and i was just wondering how to tell if its injection or carb, im not sure wether its the cars origonal engine.
If the airbox has two bolts its Single Point Injection.
If it has three bolts, its carb.

its got three so its a carb then, is this usual for the year and model, its a j plate 1.2 merit, or do you think its had an engine swap?

ive got a k plate 1.2 and thats carbed
My J reg 1.2 Merit is carb. Presume it's quite normal.
Most j-reg 1.2 are carb, some k-reg as above too.

so wots the easiest way to get more power out of one of these engines, ive got a couple of hundred to spend on the engine. or what would be the easiest 1.4 engine to fit?

A thourough service, free flowing air filter, aftermarket cam such as a piper, or one pulled from a gte engine, exhaust.
I had a J reg 12NV, carb
Easiest engine swap would be the 1.3 or 1.4 from an SR.

Using a rocker removal tool its quite straight forward.
