hi im just wondering if anyone has built thair own pc from scratch if so whats needed and is it hard cheers
its easy.
need a case, psu, motherboard, cpu, ram, hdd, dvd/cd (Writer if you fancy), video card if not on mobo, lan card if not on mobo, soundcard if not on mobo.
^ And keyboard/mouse and monitor if you don't already have a spare ;)
Mine is currently spilling out over my desk lmfao
Gigabyte do good motherboards - they also come with a large fold out sheet giving you simple step by step instructions on where and how to plug everything in.
I usually buy my kit from ebuyer (www.ebuyer.com)
And yes it's really rather easy. Built mine myself with no previous knowledge, it's a good way to learn.
Edit: Razorjack posted while I was typing, but agreed, eBuyer is definitely recommended.

Perspex cases arent always cut right, and are a pain in the **** to keep clean.
Make sure all the parts you buy are compatible.
Do you want the pc for gaming or just web browsing and stuff?

Everything you need is pretty much said earlier
Motherboard
CPU
Graphics card
Sound card (if not on motherboard)
Hard drive(s)
CD/DVD read/writer(s)
Floppy Drive

Then if you don't have any already:

Oh how prices have crashed, my ?1500 firewall of 8 years of age is starting to struggle a bit now.
Also forgot:
RAM
Heatsink (CPU fan)
Make sure that the motherboard socket matches the CPU you buy. Also if your getting a CPU without a fan then make sure that the CPU fan you buy will fit the CPU. Its easy to overlook!
Same goes with the GFX card. If you get a PCI-E motherobard make sure you get a PCI-E GFX card.
ok - so what if I wanted to build a PC for my car - just to play music (off hard drive).
Thinking of a small compact unit with a 7" lcd (touch?) screen - stick a decent music player on it - save buying a head unit.
How do you convert the power for a PC for running in a car?
You can buy specific in-car PSU's.
Ade,
these guys (http://www.logicsupply.com/default.php/cPath/40_63) should be able to sort you out or you can try here (http://linitx.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_94_95&products_id=344)
This guy (http://www.stevieg.org/carpc/install/components/) gives a total breakdown of his sytem including all parts used and supliers.
It's pretty much the same as building a pc for your desk.
Cheers

Have a look at http://www.mp3car.com/ for ideas and advice, and http://www.mini-itx.com/ as a supplier of components for mini pc's.
For input I'd consider one of these (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5445.html) :thumb:
