View Full Version : fitting a 1.3 head to a 1.4, what else is needed?

hi what will i have to do to put a 1.3 head on my 1.4 carb engine?? will i have to buy anything else apart from just the head?? can i put bigger valves in does any1 know the clearance?? i was also going to get the head skimmed is it safe do so without causing to much compression??

also i have a gsi brand new gsi camshaft + dizzy, coil. will i be able to fit this aswell?

you will also need the inlet manifold as the inlet ports are a different shape to the 1.4

as for bigger valves etc - you best bet would be to use the 1.4sri head instead of the 1.3 head (denji saw 7bhp for this alone)

Are you staying with the standard Pierburg carb?
If so, use the 1300 head and inlet.

If your getting T40s, as Riggy said, 1400SRI is the best head to choose.

definetly use the sri head mine was set up to 89bhp when i got it and it went way out of tune. i bought a cam and an sri head put that on and it put 100 not set up set up it produced 125 now with manifold its 134. some people have queried these figures but the point is it is still a massive gain.

so i can put either head on and the valves will clear? and what about the camshaft will that do anything?

camshaft willbe fine think the sr has slightly more lift. might as well get the whole lot done at once are you planning on using twin carbs.

make sure the camshaft pulley is the same. Just use the old 1.4 one and you'll know its ok.

yeah thought id do the whole lot while its poorly and apart lol just doing things on the cheap till i can afford a nice engine!

youll prob end up sppendin the same amount do it all at once trust me
