the oil preasure on my 2.0 16v gsi is around 100 psi on cold start up and when you rev it up to about 4 grand it goes right off the scale, once warm it does drop to 50 psi on tick over but still off the scale when revving hard is this normal? ive fitted a sbd nylon relief valve but the problem still persists. any ideas lads?

dont know much about oil etc but id say theresn electrical fault with that oil pressure gage if not then dont know sorry

mine is an sr and prob had different clocks but sits in the middle when iddling( if it will idle! ) and then goes down to a 1/4 at half throttle ang goes to 3/4 at full throttle.

my gauge is going right off the clock though were talking what looks like 150 psi!

Is it a GSi dial oil guage?
Or a proper oil pressure guage.
With a cold engine the pressure needle should hardly move from around the full mark on GSi/GTE type oil guage at any revs.
With the engine warm it should be around 1/4 mark at idle, as soon as engine speed reaches about 2000rpm mine goes straight to almost full and stays there all up the rev range.
It only drops between 2k rpm-to idle speed.

As long as it's at at least a quarter at idle and gets higher as you increase the revs it's fine, it's when it reads low for the revs it's doing that you need to worry, but oil pumps rarely fail.

But am i right in thinkin that high oil preasure can still kill your engine?

Too high a pressure yes.
But too low a pressure will also kill it.
