I'm just collecting the bits together to do mine, won a rack on ebay on Fri (well excited)

There are 2 ways to do it. Hydraulic with 12v elec pump from Saxo, 106 or Clio etc with the hydraulic rack from a Corsa B GSi for example. Get some hoses made up & wire in the pump & away you go + I beleive you need to run corsa track rods that are shortened by approx 1-1.5 inches.

"nd way is using the ePAS column from later Corsa B & C's. This a elec motor assisted column that is powered & runs a regular rack. This has an advantage in that in some people's eyes its a simpler conversion & you can also bolt it upto whatever rack you like eg a quik rack or even whack it in whatever car ya like. mk1 Escort rally cars etc.

This whole column & its own ECU need to be sourced from a donor car. There is parts of its bracketry/corsa bulkhead that need welding to your Nova bulkhead. The motor on the column also wont clear the fuse box on the Nova (very well) so that needs tinkering. Lastly the ECU has to be reconfigured to run outside of the Corsa (dont ask) & also needs a speedo input so it does more work at slow speeds & retains feel at higher speeds.
Getting the ECU done aint cheap Ive heard.

Ive got my Saxo pump, so no clues needed for my chosen method!

**** posted at the same time lol

2 ways. Fluid version with a corsa rack and saxo electric pump etc.
or the electric column from a corsa C.

Both are about equal hassle etc but the epas column allows you to run a quick rack should you want one where as the fluid one you cant so easily

Keep me posted on how you get on with it please man... never thought on the corsa c setup but will deffinitly think about it...

Dont expect my progress too quickly. My motivation/speed of work ratio is poor.
Will do it as a WIP thread tho. Ive got some trick stuff planned. Money & grief from parents about the driveway dont help matters.

Sending the cheque for the rack tomorrow, so I'll start a thread when the bits arrive. A mate has my pump over at his garage. Gonna have the lines made up at Pirtek the hose supplier.

PAS is for wimps. Dont bother, it will spoil your power to weight ratio.

I did this mod last year.
I went for Corsa B electric column.
pretty easy to do with minimal knowledge (suited me!!)

Source column from Corsa B 1.2 with ecu, sent ecu to Harry Hockly and they mod it for ya. Not cheap at ?250 if i remember but when i comes back all you need is a earth and a live feed and it does the rest.

As for modding fuse box mine fitted ok. Was tight but didnt need to move fuse box.

If you have a 2.0 Nova with a LSD and quickrack i would highly recomend PAS, it made mine so much nicer to drive on road and track.

How is the understeer side of things with PAS?

Stuart

and just how will pas change how the car understeers? lmao

Well, the nova I drive understeers like f**k if its a bit wet, I do my best to feel for it with the wheel in order to try to catch it. Any car I've driven with PAS has had no or next to no feedback in comparison. Hence why I asked.

that wont stop the car form understeering in the first place though...
generally you get heavily damped feedback from a hydraulic PS system, where as with the E-Pas column i can imagine is gives near perfect feedback comapred to not having it..

Ah right, thanks.

U dont have to use corsa track rod ends and modify them you can use fiat Seicento rod ends they are the right length.

While we are on the subject of steering, where is the best place to buy a full quick-rack set up from?, and are they a straight swap for the original rack?

Cheers Jono.
