doing my headgasket, got all the bits just need new cam belt,

when i went to the motor factors they had 3 types, a 17mm with 111 teeth (around that) and a 17mm with 104 teeth and a 15mm with 104 teeth,

ive measured the cam and its 17mm, its a 1.3 head on 1.4 block, tenmsioned by the water pump, the guy in the motor factors reckons its the 17mm x 104 teeth, i cant remeber when i bought the original one how many teeth it was!

any 1 know for sure without my taking it off and counting as i have to drive round to mates garage with car (it just about runs) to do the work 2 moro and want to have everything ready.

cheers

What did you ask for?

When i got mine, i just gave him the Reg year, and engine size, and he got me the right one.

cam belt for a 1.4, but then he said there are too options and the engine isnt the original one so it wont match my reg year. then i thought maybe as its a 1.3 head it will be different, def think its a 1.4 one but either 111( +/-2ish) or 104 teeth

I would go and ask for a belt to a 14nv, 1989 1.4 engine and see what he says.
Lay that on top of the old belt, and see if it looks the same length.

the 111 tooth belt is for when an extra tensioner pulley is fitted, usally on later 1.4 engines with a flat-topped cambelt cover. the shorter one is for earlier engines with a round topped belt cover. If you don't have the extra pulley, the shorter one should do the trick.

check if your top and bottoms pulleys both have round grooves in between the teeth.
Earlier engins had square grooves and you can't mix them obviously.
Thats the main thing to worry about.

But length is an issue.

I'd buy all 3 & return the 2 that are no good, most motor factors ought to accomodate you on this.

I'm going through the same with my GSi/GTE hybrid.
