As you cant open the boot from the outside - for the MoT does it have to be opened easily by a mechanism - electrical or mechanical (prefer the latter like a bonnet pull) by the drivers seat.
I would be able to open the boot by hand if the parcel shelf wasnt in the way but is it acceptable for the MoT inspector? :wtf:
I would like to know how people have overcome this problem.
Secondly I would like to know if I should put on a flushed boot with a GSi spoiler I was given or stay with a standard boot?
Did a little photoshop in Paint to see what you guys think of flush or not.

As far as I can see the tailgate is not part of the MOT test. So if it doesn't open its not a reason to fail...
IMO normal tailgates look best, I'm not a fan of flushed panels
i agree with jack on this one, put it this way mate, iff theres no handle for the tailgate they can't test it:thumb: , but i wouldn't flush the tailgate, it makes the back of the car look too bland IMO.

the tailgate is part of the mot test and has to be able to open from either the outside or the inside.

When mine gets MOT they never look at the boot plus you cant open a novcs boot from the inside, keep it standard the flushed boot looks just too blaned and very ugly!
I dont think you can open any vauxhall boot from the inside, without removing the boot trim.
I got trapped inside my car when the central locking stopped working and the boot lid shut, lol
Had to take all the boot panel off.

Thats how I can open it - by working the mechanism itself as there is no trim on the boot.
So it looks like keeping the standard boot, get it colour coded & put on the GSi spoiler.
mine had a flish boot, and it went though an mot, i didn't have a switch for it to work either
did adventually fit a boot release though

Are you sure?
Load Security
1. A bootlid, tailgate, loading door, hinged tailboard or dropside cannot be secured in the closed position.
As long as it can be, or is, closed securely it should be ok. No mention of it having to open - only openings tested are the driver's door and front passenger's door.

you must have at least one means of mechanical entry into the car eg if you smoothed everything and had solenoids would fail - what im led to believe

(dont smooth boot - sooooo 90's lol)

My old Nova had a flushed boot panel and could be opened with a solenoid popper button that was in the little hole infront of the electric window buttons and that was fine for MOT's

i meant if the door handles were smoothed as well - i had a solenoid for the tailgate on mine - extra piece of security etc.

to do those 2 checks though, they could release it from the inside?
True - but the car wouldn't be a failure on "cannot open tailgate" it would be failure on "unable to check strut tops". Anyway the tester would probably check them from interior access.

I do know with some MoT guys like to look into the boot to look for rust under the carpet.
This seems to be a grey area.

I got given the flush boot fitted with a GSi spoiler and its been in the garage loft for about a year all sprayed up and I just wanted to know peoples opinions on it.
MoT isnt til May & I wouldnt want to put it on then have to take it off again for the MoT as some idiot has reversed into my standard boot with a 4x4 - judging by the height of the dent.
