almost got the project ready for fitting the body kit and respray, and have lined up a 1.6 gte bottom end, can get hold of a 1.6 16v head, and looking round for a set of weber twin 40s and a 4-1 manifold, also got my bro who can do the conversion for me!

was just wondering, would it be easier to take it to the bodyshop to fit the kit and respray, then do the engine, or vise versa? as i want the engine bay sprayed as well, the bar will be resprayed black, its currently blue

cheerz!

Give it some rev

you'd get much better results if you took the engine out for the body shop to paint. also id have the body kit fitted as it requires lots of time and patients to do the job properly. thats my 10 pence anyway lol

if i took the engine out, how would i get it to the garage?

the bodyshop will be doing some welding, flushing, smoothing, and fitting the kit, then spraying it all up, been quoted ?1200, is that good?

then i need to get it home as my bro will be doing the conversion on my drive

Tow/trailer it to the garage.

Sounds like a good price - just hope they dont skimp on the spray job. :D

In all fairness if your trying to get the 1.6 16V head onto an 8v block for the hassle involved you mightaswell get a 1.6 16V engine complete... Yes the bottom ends are the same but you have to do the extra machining and taping etc that GM do for the 16v bottom ends...

how much could i be looking at for a 1.6 16v engine with f13cr grbox and driveshafts?

what electrics would have to be modified to make it fit?

would an fse boost valve fit on it?

also, would the weber carbs and manifold fit on easy enough?

cheerz!

can get you a 1400 16v XE for ?250 with eveything you need for the conversion. Delivery would be a bit of a bugger but certainly do-able.

Its 54k and ran sweet as a nut before removal.

The 16v head has completely different shape ports to the 8v?
You would have to get a new Tb/carb inlet for the 16v head.

If you get a 1600/1400 16v i wouldn't bother running it on carbs, might as well stick with the MPi on it, they are very good engines.

the inlets on the 16V engines is very restrictive. So i would fit carbs to it...

Ye good point.

Either carbs or a Mantzel style inlet, or TBs

TBs are a bit out of my price range!

as the car is on carb anyway at the mo, i thought id stick with it, plus i like the idea of having a weber twin 40 set up! :D

if it would be easier to stick with the 1.6 8v idea, then fine, its the loom im more concerned about, if the 16v is going to be a bit of an impossible job, then ill scrap that idea, just thought i might be able to get a few more ponies out of a 16v head than an 8v head, plus, a 16v looks better in the engine bay! :D

the only engine mods im thinking is carbs, fse boost valve and 4-1 zorst manifold

stick with the 1.6 8v engine, set of 40's and a lary cam should make it a lot quicker than a 1.6. 16 on injection:thumb:

decided, gona stick with the 8v, cheaper and easier, should i use the gte lump for it? im thinking, 40s, cam and 4-1 manifold? how many horses?

also, just a quick Q, as im not a post monkey, ill post it here, anyone bought/own a kingdom developments big mouth front bumper? ordering one this week, ?250 and was wondering of the quality of it, and how it fixes to the car?

cheerz!
