Why do you have to change the fuel tank when changing a 1.2 carb to a 1.6 GSi, is it because of the fuel pump, if so can you keep the carb tank and add a fuel pump, say a facet?

No, its cos the gsi tank has an internal swirl pot

and the fuel injection tanks are double skinned

As Will said, all the injection tanks have a swirl pot, carb tanks dont.
If you use a carb tank the car will cut out every time you hit a corner,Lol.
