2 major things to consider first.

1, Can you actually insure such a vehicle once the conversion is done. It aint cheap until you have a few years and no claims behind you.

2, the 2.0 16v is the same job at the end of the day, so would you rather fit an engine with a possible 20bhp more to start with for no more effort which would offer a far greater tuning scope.

I would look up LMF, (www.lmfvauxhall.com (http://www.lmfvauxhall.com)) I gave em a ring about putting my Astra SRi 2.0 8v C20NE into my mkI 1.2 Nova. The complete conversion kit is made up of:

Engine & Gearbox mountings.
Wiring Diagrams.
Complete Fitting Guide.
Green Induction kit.
Motorsport drive shafts.
Tie bar lowering brackets. All for 375 quid including next day postage

The 2.0 16v is 425 quid and all you get is special wheel hubs added on top of the shopping list above.

Not put the engine in yet. Had the Astra estate engine reconned and its now pushing just about 115bhp so it'll pull nicely in the Nova. Im jus waiting the nova 1.2 to die first, the tappets have started tapping and its done 100k already.

Have a look its the stripped out lil track nova on page 6:

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/585696

Think its a job I'll wait to do 'til I finish Uni this summer.

Its a pretty straight forward job - takes a few days to complete with the LMF kit - Total Vauxhall have currently been doing a feature length on fitting a C20XE into a Corsa over the past 2 issues including this months.
Have a flick through a copy, its a pretty good thumb guide.

i have been reading it like they should o done it to a nova tho dnt u think?mabie jist saying that as i have one but so what eh

jbowman

They're using a Corsa as its a common place car and plenty of people use it a a basis for a engine convesion. Its harder to come by a solid nova for a project car nowerdays
As I have an Astra engine and Nova Im gonna put the two together no matter what people will say - it helps in you mechanical experience and knowledge.
I think you should go ahead with it!

this is true i was lucky scored one out of local paper 1 owner from new gen36k miles etc etc only basic 1.2 merit tho

jbowman
26-02-06, 10:24 PM
36K, how much lower do you wana get? I think you should keep the engine for a while and take a longer time to look for a decent low mileage 2.0 8v and then give it a good recon, even give it a good ol clean and a fresh lick of paint.
So when you do decide its time to chuck in the 2.0 it'll be a nice, reliable & show worthy looking. :D

Do you mean you were thinking of a GSi engine for your 1.2 or you hada look at a GSi but it needed loadsa work to be done on the engine?

nova~norm
27-02-06, 08:35 PM
no was thinking about gsi engine sorry 1.6 8v easyer to fit and still fleet?what u think?need to get mot!!!!needs done on the 4th!!!!!!!!!
hope it pass's

jbowman
27-02-06, 09:22 PM
Well I hope it passes too mate - get that MoT first before spending money.
I always try to see if a screwdriver goes through the top rear spring seats and around that area.

The GSi C16SE engine will still fit pretty easily and so will the E16SE from the GTE, both pretty good on bhp. If got a nice one and got the cams, induction and straight throught 'zorst you'd be looking at about 100bhp.
Still quite tuneable motors and Im not 100% on the wiring looms either.

its pritty solid like jist back arch but they havl sorted now

jbowman
28-02-06, 07:51 PM
Nothing to worry about then, jus give her a good service, change all the filters and oil + a little blast up the road to de-coke here and get her running warm before the MoT.

I always take the air filter out, lets the engine breathe better and helps the emmisions.

nova~norm
28-02-06, 11:03 PM
does it get one did it not come out b4 the emissions thest?1986 mind?

nova~norm
28-02-06, 11:08 PM
does it get emissions test mind its from 1986?

jbowman
01-03-06, 08:43 PM
They will test it for emmissions no matter what age of the car as its a compolsary test in the new MoT - no getting away from it. lol

nova~norm
01-03-06, 09:12 PM
i didnt think it would been so feckin old

Adam

It will be tested under the less strict carb emissions limits. Pre august 1992.

I agree we all have different opinions but we dont need to get personal with each other - we're all here as a little break from a busy day & to talk to Nova people - thats what brings us here.

So lets hope thats all sorted and all negativity left behind.

its not that difficult thou. If your on a budget you dont need a "KIT"

You can find the mounts for sale on mig for about 20-30 quid. As for shafts, use GTE/GSI ones and cavvy MK2 inner CV joints.

Stich weld the chassis legs and round the struts for strength. then throw her in.

wiring is a doddle also.

jbowman
17-03-06, 01:38 AM
You say the wiring is a doddle- but how easy is it really? Anyone got a decent guide & pics for the looms for the 2.0 8v going into a 1.2 loom?

carnoisseurcraig
21-03-06, 09:18 PM
forget about attaching looms. All ya need to get the 8v started is a permanant live, earth and a switched live. All on the 8v loom.

There is a few other things but nothing major.
