View Full Version : Small Update: My Nova

With the help of my lovely assistant - Terri-Ann, I wrapped my manifold with Thermotec heat wrap. This should keep bay temperatures down, but also looks good (imo) compared to the rusty manifold.

Some will notice the SRI rocker and cam carrier. Just need to sort the pipes for that now. Anyone know a solution for getting a pipe for putting the big breather on the rocker, onto the smaller connection on the bailey tank?

Also i've changed the route of the fuel going into the 40's, and lengthened the hose going in, as the old one kinked on me.

The oil cooler is now plumbed in, and i'm just waiting on a M18 center bolt for the sandwich plate, as roy at Motor Sports and Spares gave me the M20 one, which doesnt fit!

Just oil, coolant, and finish the breather hoses and its ready for the road :) (well, once i sort the insurance and tax)

looks good dude,
but why have the huge bit of feul piping?
why not swap the unions on the t40s around and have a small bit?

I did have that, but because of the short distance between the regulator and the 40's, and the sharp angle, the hose kinked. Pretty much down to the crap location of the regulator in the first place.

Better to have the pipe longer, than have a hole in the bulkhead when i need to move the regulator.

Its the vacuum advance.
You leave that disconnected when you have t40s.

An idea for the breather connection, how about two 90 degree samco bends with a straight reducer in between joined by short alloy hose connectors? Or they also do 90 degree reducers aswell.

I've an engineer who lives a few doors down from me making some reducers for the oil system. Think i might just run some black pipe between them.

I've been thinking about colour codeing the rocker cover, but it may go matt black when the finish is rubbish, as the alloy will tarnish.

about the rocker cover, why dont you use a black 1 off say a mk3 astra and it'll have the vauxhall sign on it???? just an idea.

very nice m8, i love how you've cleaned things like the washer bottle up, it makes all the differance i think :thumb:

Just spent the last hour reading Joffs WIP thread & this update.

Makes me look at mine out on the drive. Its too cold to work on it, Ive just been out & pumped up the flat tyre. Does that count?

looking Good Keith

I know some of the cam covers don't work on the 1.6 as I had a vaxuhall badged plastic cover on mine and the splash guard inside would be struck by the cam when running.

Was seriously worrying when I first started it up lol

Look forward to seeing you at PVS , more rounds of shots of Tequilla are calling ;)

Mint pic mate :)

Got my bumper/grill back from the paintshop. Finish is great, colour is about a 98% match, tho i'm not too bothered as it'll probably be stone chipped like hell again in a few months.

Moved the headunit from the awkward nova slot (mk2 dash) to the cold air vents above. And in its place i fitted an audioleads cd pocket

Benn: I take it you mean Keith as every1 slating my car.

No worries Kieth, most people on here hate it I think. But then everyone on here bought a Nova for a reason which means more often than not they like the look of a nova shape which to be honest I don't. Hence the five door. It takes a bit of skill to make those straight axe chopped arches look alright.
