Paint it with a roller, will only cost you a tenner for the paint.
Just dont forget to put the lid back on the paint when you've finnished, it might set

it depends on several factors -

If you are looking at a long term paint job then please make sure you get all rust areas (arches etc) properly repaired 1st. Its a waste of money to get a nice paint job only for it to bubble a year later (if that)

prices depend on several factors

1 - the condition of the shell. If its rusty then you need it fixed up
2 - the prep - it'll need flatting back, dings and scuffs smoothed and primed
3 - the quality of the paint and type. Flat white is cheaper and easier to spray than red (its all down to colour tone and light reflection - white absorbs light cancelling out small flaws in the bodywork).
Metalic is a bit more expensive depending on the colour - will need lacquer
Flip paint is pretty expensive (?1K + for good job) as it needs special paint
Pearl is a cheaper option as there is a flat colour base coat then a special lacquer
Metal Flake is like pearl with a flat colour base coat then a lacquer mixed with flakes

Also - if you want the inside to match the outside (ie engine bay, door edges etc) then that's also going to up the price.

I'd say for a decent job and a decent colour - ?800+

Also - for reference, yellow cars are statistically less likely to be involved in a car accident, silver metalic cars will always cary a premium on a forecourt or private sale (apparantly) and red is the most stolen colour in the UK. Depending on where you live, avoid fancy paint jobs as you're guaranteed to find some knobber will maliciously damage the car.
