get your distributor renewed and a set of spark leads and go from there or if u havent got time for it stick it in a garage they,ll soon fix it:thumb:

Take off the distributor cap and clean up the four contacts with some rough paper. Dont take off the spark plug leads because you might get the firing order wrong if you dont put them back in the same place! good luck!

when you get it started does it only rev to bout 2000 rpm and then cut out????
if so mine did the same , it was that the HT leads had worn through where they run over the fan.
if you take the HT leads off just marker so you kno which ones go where.
hope this helps

What engine is it?

If your getting a spark from the coil, but not at the plugs, then the dizzy cap is probably fooked

take you cap of and see if your rotor arm will turn freely , it shouldnt so dont force it lol , if it does turn the its like a small clip in the dizzy which has snapped

found the problem, theres a small lug on the back of the dizzy where it conects to the cam, this turns the rotor, the lug had snaped off so the rotor cudnt turn any mur. jst had to buy a brand new dizzy as they dnt sell the parts seperatly, cost me ?111.63, prob piss take, o well. i now need to fit it and make sure its set up correctly, any hints? is it jst best to set piston 1 jst after TDC and then twist the dizzy so the rotor is against point 1 in the dizzy cap.

fnx for all ur help.

Set the cam to TDC, the hole for the dizzy lug should be at the top of its rotation.
Fit the dizzy, and make sure the rotor arm is pointing towards plug lead 1 on the dizzy cap.

What engine is it? ?111 for a dizzy!!!!, i guarantee someone on here would have a spare one lying about.

its a 1.4 sr.
yep ?111, was gna go get a seconded hand 1 but noing my luck with second hand mechanical parts i fort it would be best to get a new 1, so i didnt get more trouble. was the cheapest i cud find, o well. hope this sorts it out.

The rotor spins with the cam
So you cant move that seperately from the engine.

You can move the position of the dizzy tho so it alters the position of the carbon contacts that the rotor touches.

Turn the engine over with a socket on the crank bolt, 19mm bolt IIRC.
Turn it clockwise until the mark on the cam sprocket aligns with the cutout on the cam cover.
The mark on the crank pulley should be aligned with another cam cover mark when the cam mark is aligned.

Take the dizzy cap off, the rotor should be pointing to plug lead 1, its the top right lead on the cap.

Haynes manual should explain it too, if you dont know what i mean.
