hi there, im wandering wat exhaust manifold would be best for my 1.3sr, performance wise!
My car alredy has a custom straight thru infinity exhaust, kent cam, head skimmed ported polished and gas flowed, filter.........(and weber 32/34 is comin soon), so thort id better get a better exhaust manifold too.....
ANY HELP PLZ,
Thanks, Luke
i always thought, and im sure i read somewhere that a 4-2-1 manifold is best for exhaust flow over a 4 branch? i.e. a standard sr part, but thats just my opinion
yea, the starnd sr/gte 4-2-1 is good for normal driving..
4-1's are good when you spend alot of time high in the rev's.. more the torque higher up the rev range apparently..
someone correct me if i wrong though lol

So are u guys sayin to leave my Standard Manifold on there, as im jus doin normal driving, or shud i go for a 4-1, or a performance 4-2-1?
L
Yup. I would stay with the standard 4-2-1.
I have a 4-1 fitted on mine, and its really moved the torque further up the rev range. Not much use with a 6200rpm rev limit.
yer iv got a 4-1, i think its well good. but then again we all got different styles in driving etc.

So wat 4-1 exhausts are about at the moment, that wud fit the 1.3sr, plus add lil mor power?

a regal 4-2-1 would be better but then its not really worth the ?220+ when you can do better mods for the same price.

ahhh kwl ill check them out soon then, thanks
I think Rally Design sell ashley manifolds for about ?95 ish.
What you need to remember is that with a normaly aspirated engine you need to retain some back pressure through the system for optimum performance. With a 4-1 manifold there will be a bigger lag before it really starts to work, but will flow much better at higher revs.
With your setup it depends on what you want out of your car. A 4-2-1 manifold should maintain some of the low end torque and make your car a bit easier to live with, but the 4-1 will exagerate the effect of your Kent Cam and make the car move even quicker through the higher revs while losing power lower down.
It's up to you really mate.

yer thats the same as mine.
whats the best set up for a 4-1 on my then. iv got a couple of set up i could have.
normal ashley system,
normal system with my cherrybomb its like straight through back box i think,
straight through system with ashley backbox,
or straight through system with the cherrybomb.
will any of those make a difference?
cheers, lew
I have a full straight through ashley, and ashley backbox, with the 4-1 manifold.
Its really killed any low down torque my engine used to have, but its definently improved power, and it sounds very nice too.
I would go with ashley system and backbox.
I think the ashley 1.6GTE manifolds are different than the SR ones, a better design for torque.
They are a 4-2-1, but they wont fit a sr system, and cost more too iirc.

cant beat a full ashley system and manifold. i'm putting my system back on very soon and gettin rid of my powerflow

right when i first took my silencer out of my system it sounded soo nice, more of a crakle to it sort of thing, but then i put on the cherrybomb and then swaped back to the asley back box and it doesnt sound the same as when i first had it done:confused: so what will that be?
cheers, lew
You getting used to the noise so it doesn't sound the same as when you first had it fitted Lol
nah i dont think its that. cause my brother even said it sounds different than it did.
im just gunna get the car up and make sure it all on good and tight and not leaking.

I had a sportex 4-1 on my old nova 1.2 t40, worked very well with all my other engine mods. I did'nt notice much that it moved the power further up the range, it seemed to just give a decent power gain all over.
What manifold would you recommend for my 1.4spi with sri head n t40s 4-1 or 4 2 1?? Is there a decent power gain or is there not really a point in changing it? thanks
