View Full Version : 1.4 head work
just fitted a 1.4 engine in my nova, i have a set of 40's from the nova sport to go on it, the lad i got them from tells me that the 1.4 head has square inlet ports whilst the inlet manifold is oval? is this ture and whats the best way to solve it....get a 1.3 head? new manifold or simply match them as much as poss?
1.4 sri head with a 1.6gte/gsi inlet...

the inlet is most likely for the mpi head which are generally better because of bigger valves i think, stuart will know, so get one of them i am using one and it is a lot better then the sr head but before you go putting it together get a cam trust me.:)
so its best to get a gsi twin carb inlet?
if you fit a SRI/GSI/GTE head then yes, but if you fit a 1.2(carb)/1.3 head then its a sport/1.2 inlet that you need.
i 've got a 1.4 from an astra estate... the exhaust manifold was alittle tight to get on then later found out that is not correct for the engine as the studs are a little wider apart according to a mate... but it fits and don't blow so alls good i guess...
is the nova sr 1.4 any different on the engine or is it just a case of different cam?
just wanna get my carbs on and have fun... so as so as i know what manifold i need i'll crack on with it....
if my head is square holes and the inlet is oval can i have them matched?
its easier to sell yoru oval ported manifold and to buy a square port one...
won't cost me a pennie having the oval one made to match... will doing this work?
not really, it will need welding up first.....
for the effort involved sell and buy the right one to save fcuking about really

i put twin 40s on my 1.4 sr and swaped the head to a 1.3 sr one as the round ports were better

i think the square ports are from carb engines arent they. so if you got a head from a mpi engine then you will be able to mach the oval ports
1.2i, 1.4i, 1.4SR, most 1.6 carb engines have square port heads.
SRI/GTE/GSi have round ports.

1.2 and 1.3 carb heads have cathedral shape ports, thats what the origional sport manifold was designed to fit. After-market manifolds are available in all three designs, but the 1.4/1.6 injection heads are the best of the standard bunch, therefore you're best off with one of these, along with a decent camshaft.
i've got a 1.4 carb...
think i'm gonna get a big valved 1.3 head. what ya think?

A worked-on 1.3 head would be ideal if you can afford it, to make the most of it a 270 to 290 degree cam aswell. Be carefull not to have the head skimmed too much though as the increase in compression ratio could be too high.
just looked at my head and the inlet manifold is a square type one with rounded top....i guess this is the cathedral shape... will my 1.4 carb engine be the same?
yes no ansa please!
