my 1.0ltr nova.
I want to push as much horserpower out of this tiny lump so i can at least keep up with my 1.2ltr or even 1.4ltr friends and not be so embarased.
I was thinking of a new carb, k&n air filter, polish heads any more suggestions? thanks
in all fairness you are totally weeing into the wind....
a head job would be good, but its a lot of money for little gain on those engines, you cant get performance cams that i know of.., the exhaust manifold would be 100% bespoke.
Basically you'd be better off nitrousing it as atleast thats a mod you can take to other cars in the future and tis the most cost effective power boost for the 1000.
Or drop a 1.4 in.
1.0L is really the worse engine ever for modding, as no companies make aftermarket cams etc for them.

the problem is if i drop in a 1.4 then i have problems with the insurance
You would if you modded your engine.
I agree with Stu, the 1.0 is bulletproof and should cope with a wee squirt of laughing gas used sparingly.
Either way, if your running a 1.0 your probably a new driver, which means if you mention a nitrous kit to your insurance company, they will spit their coffee all over their screen! Engine conversion wise, they may dribble a bit out of the corner of their mouth! Id sell it and get hold of a 1.4SR, theyre not too dear to insure, and are quite rapid out of the box, and much more tunable than the little pushrod!
any modding will cost on insurance.....
for the odd acceleration battle, nitrous is really the only thing to use if you wish to say your 1.0 beat your mates double powerd cars..

ye iam cant even drive yet just 16 atm, ive put quite alot of work in to my nova would be sad to see it go already so maybe iam just going to have to live with it for the time being.
What sort of thrust does nos give you, is it quite significant?
IMO
Your best sticking with the 1L for a year or two.

lol bullsh*t it goes all blurry it feels like your in a faster car for a few seconds lol
as for what to do, i give this advice assuming they fit, because i know nothing about the 1 litre engines apart from its got a timing chain
go crazy, buy a porting kit of ebay and DIY it, if you break it, its only a 1 litre lol i did my 1.4 and it came out good
get a 1.2 inlet, 1.2 carb and 1.2 fuel pump(assuming it fits)
why'll your porting you head, if you take the valves out, replace the stem oil seals too, any leakage from them and it kills the power
get a 1.2 camshaft (assuming it fits)
I got all of the above apart from the fuel pump and im keeping my porting kit, i'll sell it to you if you want it?? pm for details ;)
erm the 1.2 OHC stuff WONT fit as the 1.0 is a OHV engine, eg the cam is in the block. I belive there was a .12 version of this but i doubt there is anythying to be had from adding those bits.
As for porting etc that means a top strip down and tahts time + money thats simply not worth it for the sweet FA gained. either fit a bigger engine or nitrous the slut.
Yep,there is a 1.2OHV in early 1980s Vauxhalls IIRC.

Best thing for you to do mate as most people in the know on here will advise you is to just stick with the 1.0 for a while and take it easy in it, then when you can afford to get a 1.2 or a 14sr the 1.0 litre engine just isnt worth putting any money into it.
Then when you build up your no claims and while all your friends are banned for racing get something which is fast like a starlet turbo or something.
What I also suggest you do if you fit nitrous is to take another feed off the nitrous bottle onto a mask to give you the illusion that you are actually going fast lol .

when you hit that nitrous, for a few seconds you can live the dream of having 1.2 power
Give it some rev

tbh go for a 1.2 conversion. if the car you have is looking tired on the body side of things then your best off selling the car and buying a nova with a 1.2 allready in their because if you do decide to put a 1.2 in place instead of a 1.0 then its classed as a modification which = bigger insurance bill
The cost of buying a 1.2 then the bill for swapping engines is going to be quite big. Then you gotta insure it. Just save your money, spend it on petrol, get out on the road and learn to get the most out of your Nova. You could make your car a bit faster by stripping it, upping the power to weight ratio. Less weight=better acceleration, handling, braking and fuel economy
i gotta K&N bolt on if you want to buy it??? fits carb
