I've just noticed a jar of lead additive in my 84 saloon which the previous owner has left in it.
It has made me wonder if the car has been set up to run on unleaded or not. Should it have the hardned valve seats etc to run on unleaded already, or will it require modifying??
It's a 1.2 by the way.:thumb:

check the date on the lead additive, if it went out of date years ago its probably just been left in there

right just got all my old brouchers out

and

all vauxhall petrol engined cars delivered from the 1st jan 1989 are preset to run on unleaded fuel or normsl 4 star , or any mixture of the two, without any modificton

so looks like your car will need the additives

What I want to know is then do I just need to retard the timing a bit so it will run on unleaded, or would I have to take the head off and get the hardened valve seats etc, so I can run unleaded!
If the head has to come off, I'll stick with the additives, but if it's just the timing needing sorted, then I'll be doing that!
