Right, i want to respray my nova in a simple gloss white, however this all costs money which iam short of atm.
i have the compressor and spray gun however am some what reluctant to use it because i've never done anything like this before,
has any1 else and how easy or hard is it?
Its easy if your good at using the spray gun, practice before trying it on a car.
You will also need a garage or somewhere dust/dirt free to spray the car in.
Plus you will need filter masks etc depending what paint you use.
I did this last year, but had a big ass compressor and a fairly deidcated spray booth in a barn to use, but im sure with a bit of effort you could get something similar setup.
I used 2pak Glacier White (and some other colours but ignore that bit lol), with a 2pack high build primer underneath.
The primer i used was BetaColor HB Primer (itallian i belive), i paid ?50 + vat for 4litres + 1 litre of hardener (should have paid cash ;) )
sanded the car back with 80 grit, filled any dinks, sanded again, etc yada yada. Primed it in "the open" of the workshop as finish wasnt vital. so you get to practice the "hohh ive jsut pooped my pants" dance you do while spraying.
sanded the primer back etc then went for paint
I got 4 L of white paint, but i didnt do the "whole" car with it...... id go for 5ish litres for the whole car (inside and bonnet too), that with the hardener and 2pak thinners was about ?180 + 0% vat (cash)
id seriously recomend a laquer over solid base colours as it allows for a bit more of a rough treatment than just leaving it "bare", so the laquer would be about another ?50ish with all that parafanalia.
The mask i used was a 3M boil in the bag type carbon canister respirator, not the best for long term spraying but it did me fine for the car.
I would get some quotes from a bodyshop, see what they say to spray it.

Where can you get car paint from? As I have been temped with a respray/touch up of the original colour.
i went to a boydshop and asked if they can supply paint... simple ;) most will do a cash deal...
For some of the bits needed like plastic primer etc i went to a bodyshop supplier in harlow, dont think they do mail order, but im sure there are a few suppliers out there.
places like www.bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk are ok but still not as cheap as some shops in the street/industrial areas

quality thanks i'll have a look around i know of a body shop around the corner who do spraying etc, so we'll see, i imagine i'll respray it myself i'll post the outcome, cant you paint straight over the blue paint that is already on the car?
id put a layer of primer down first imho
Ye, primer it first, just incase theres anything in the old paint that might react with the new paint.

I have bought some touch up paint to do my arches. However although i bought the same colour, because the paint that is already on there is 14 years old it has faided a bit, and the new spray looks a lot darker than the existing. does anyone have any tips of how to get the colours to be a closer match, or do i just have to deal with it???
Please Help
Thanks Ed

This mite sound strange but i would just t-cut alot around the where the arch is to see if the paint can come back to its original gloss.
