turn it to position two and theres a pin size hole, put a wire coat hanger or something in there and the ignition should pull out, but you might have trouble getting it to position 2, try hammering a flat screwdriver into it with the hexagonal bit on it so you can put a spanner on it.

Keep looking - they'll be in the last place you look.

On my old Chevette I lost the keys so got rid of the barrel alltogether (hammer) and rewired a new keyed ignition hidden under the dash.

theres no need to go cutting at ya barrel at all, had this problem when my mate broke his key in half.
if you take the dials in ya dash out then the cowling surrounding the ignition then you can see that the whole ignition is held in by one bolt that is undone from the top. undo that and it comes off no problem.no need for key to undo steering lock, this will release steering lock too.

there shouldnt be a bolt that you can simply undo on there lol. thre will be a sheer bolt but thats cut off so you can undo it later lol

if you do my idea your ignition will still be intact, you just have to put a new barrel in.

You don't even need a saw to get it off, just hit it with a hammer and it will snap, or you can take a happer and chisel to the shear bolt

:confused: hmm, ignition must of been changed before then but bodged with a bolt, you'd swear it was OE.i must of been incredibly lucky then, could of been a bit of a bugger.

for your future reference, if the car still has its original locks & ign., ie. only uses one key, then the actual lock number is on a label on the boot/hatchback lock barrel. there are a great many ways of actually getting into a nova, but I am not going to mention any in public, but once in, you can easily remove the cover on the hatchback & get at the lock....
