high revs

hi there my mate has got a nova gsi when he is sat at the traffic lights the revs go up 2 2000 what is the problem ,cheers

His idle control valve will need cleaning with carb cleaner!! Its the thing that bolts to the cam box of the engine. Where a fuel pump would be on a carb nova!!
