use all the same type of paint i.e acrylic based. Sand first with wet and dry, then primer with any acrylic based primer, do about 2 or 3 coats, then wiat for it to dry completely and sand lightly with wet and dry. Then start building up your layers of paint again use acrylic based paint and build the layers up, do about 5 layers opf paint, that should be enough. Don't lacquer it because the lacquer goes off in bright sun and goes yellow, acrylic based paints will be shiny enough. Once it is completely dry (48 hours) buff it up with a light T-Cut and polish. Job Done !

erm ur talking bout cans there? wot vent u fitting?
u spraying complete bonnet? if so ull need compressor(about 8cfm 1), spray gun(bout ?40 quid for a decent 1), panel wipe, sand paper etc... oh and a bluddy good mask cos 2 pac paint aint nice stuff!
then ull need primer for pearlescent paint(get all primer and paint from same place). grey primer. and thinners to thin down paint so it will actually spray nicely. u do very lite coats of primer till ur happy on finish (bout 4 lite coats) u may need to the flatten that surface with 1000 grit paper. then u spray very lite and EVEN coats of paint. bout 4 coats again. lacquer adds that nice shine but if ur aint a pro u dont need it or it will go wrong :) u then buff it up with t cut(protects paint) then ur done.

if u dont know about apraying u should use cellulose paint and primer but that will look crap with the 2 pac pearlescent paint that ur nova has got from factory. so u gotta use the harder to spray paint!

theres so much more to say but id go on for ages! ive missed tons out 2.
surely u know a m8 who can paint??

Are those cheap (about ?28) electric spray guns any good for car body paint?

They're a spray head with built-in compressor, and they say they're for doing Water-based and acrylic paint, as well as varnish, lacquer and creosote!

Just wondered if anyone has tried one, as I can't afford a decent compressor and spray gun at the mo (though I might hire form local hire shop).

Anyone?

WARNING if you're spraying in 2 pack u need more than a mask it goes in through your skin as well - just a mask with 2 pack is as good as no mask.
Full body suit needed etc...

use cellulose mate u wont wake up with aching kidneys

if your just respraying a vent or even bonnet, in my opinion I would say you don't need to get a compressor and use 2pack paint, if your respraying the whole car then yes but just for a small part you will get a good enough finish from a can the way I said, but it depends on your level of competence, time and money. I have resprayed all my body kit with cans, GSI front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, flushed tailgate, spoiler bonnet scoop, handles new wing etc, they all look fine and I did them the way I described in my first reply. Obviously if you do what 13srboy suggests then you will get a better finnish, but it wont look bad if you do it with cans.

if you get the paint from an auto refinishing shop they will mix the paint for you in one of their cans they are larger than standard. They also have more pressure and a better spray nozzle pattern than those in the shops, when you are done use rubbing compound with plenty off water to blend it back in to the original paint finish the cans are a bit more expensive(?6)but well worth it.when finished add your polish:D

i would have said to use cellulose but itll look bad against the rest of the car. so 2 pac it was.
if ur spraying whole thing use cellulose paint.
but if u want to spray with cans do it a certain micky owens sprayed a whole car with cans!! lol

electric spray guns are crap. oh and if ur getting compressor and gun remember to clean the gun with thinners to keep nozzle clean and when ur done painting wash out gun with thinners and leave the gun in thinners for a while. other wise ull wreck gun and paint job ill be crap! (ive done it so trust me)

Are the elecy spray guns better than aerosols though?
I'm wanting to spray quite a large area (all of lower side of car from windows down, plus my bonnet) which would take a fair few aerosol cans, so I though if I got an elecy spray gun, it would work out cheaper. If the quality is better than Aerosol, I might still do it, but if not, I'll go for the decent kit.
I'll find out about hiring the kit, from my local tool hire place if that's the best option....to use decent compressor etc, 'cos I can't afford my own at the mo.

jesus people what are you on about, the only way to get a finish compairable to the way the one you're taking off looked like is to get yourself a decent compressor and high quality gun which proper paints, including high build primers. also you'll find it next to impossible to buy cellulose paint from any supplier unless you can prove you're from a certified bodyshop, although you can buy it from the bodyshop on a one off basis
