View Full Version : The new look

OK we've gone with new forum software and a new (simple but neat) look.

Some people are commenting that the forums are running faster, this is probably because vBulletin is proving to be way more efficient than phpBB with regards to database design and use etc.

I've heard a few peeps saying they find vBulletin "bulkier", not sure what exactly they mean here as it's got the same features as any other forum software, the look is set by the template so some installs could look bulkier than others.

So, the look we've gone for, do you like it?

Comments / suggestions etc please!

i hated it at first.... just prefered the way phpbb etc etc are layed out...

but the more i use it, the more i like it

Lol you replied before the poll was added!

Strange, the post goes up before the poll. hmmm.

i've had my own implementation of phpbb and used the NL one for ages, and i think the more i use this one the more i like it. The appearance of it is still annoying me though... think its the icons that are winding me up ;)

The old site seemed easier to use. The old colour scheme probably separated it out a bit more. IMO it does seem "bulkier", it's just the way it's all laid out, like it's got more stuff crammed in to the same amount of space.

I've had forums change which I used and I eventually got used to 'em though.

agree with above; colour scheming helped, but its just cos we're new to this so we wud say stuff like that.. as long as the site/forum benefits from the changes then its all good.

Looks better than the previous novaload in my oppinion.

Keep it up :thumb:

I've actually found that this is slightly slower than the previous version... could just be someone sharing MY bandwidth at work though, Dunno.

Will

it be lunchtime at work

interwibble always slower

Adam
30-01-06, 01:44 PM
I like it, especially as the search etc works, and with quick reply etc etc.
It loads pretty quickly even on 56k:thumb: :)

lol only 10 people work here, two of those are in here with me and i know they're not on the net. Two from upstairs are out on lunch, boss is in a meeting, one person is not here today... can't be that many people using MY connection with me.

Ian

Deffo faster times at the client end. Is there any way of slightly adjusting the shade of grey for alternate posts to add a visual reinforcement of where one post stops and another begins?

sh0rty
30-01-06, 06:37 PM
thats exactly what i said fester, theres no knowing where one ends. but there is if you look lol, getting used to it all

i think the new design is wicked, and as a few have mentioned, it all works, search features, more stuff, just neater and nicer :)

Stuart
30-01-06, 06:39 PM
this is better than that scary black and orange one lol

30-01-06, 06:43 PM
preferred the old one, but maybe that is becuse im not used to this one yet.

kevw
30-01-06, 06:44 PM
Yea black and orange one just doesen't suit a car website.

Everyone I shown wasn't impressed lol

Jack
30-01-06, 07:20 PM
Hmm... this is growing on me, but I'm still undecided as to whether I prefer this or the old version.

I liked the layout, colour and design of the old one. It seemed a lot more compact and tidy than this, although this version does seem a lot faster.

The banner at the top looks a little disjointed compared to the rest of the site as well.

And the envelopes... I don't like the envelopes :tard:

sh0rty
30-01-06, 07:32 PM
the banner at the top will be made so it fits in and will be random. it aint totally finished yet, but kev had to put it back as people suffer withdrawal symptoms ;)

Chris
30-01-06, 08:53 PM

I like it, good work!

It'll take a bit of getting used to, but that's tuff lol

wisewood
31-01-06, 10:12 AM
Well having used this one all day yesterday, and this morning i have to say i now prefer this version. The quick reply (which could have been added to the old on anyway) is good. The ability to format your post as it will appear on the page is MUCH better, especially as when you include an image it shows up in the text box so you know if you got the URL right.

Face it people, this is better. It might not be as pretty in places, but this is a much better forum system, which runs quicker and more reliably with less bugs. AND, because you have to pay for it, if someone does find a bug, they'll fix it pretty quick and get the patch available asap.

kevw
31-01-06, 10:25 AM
I personally prefer it. It's making me post a lot more!

wisewood
31-01-06, 10:29 AM

Finances are the only thing that have stopped me. If you want to organise a collection for the "Get wisewood to a show this summer" fund i'll be more than happy to attend ;)

I went to a few MK meets a while back when i went through my phase of "i've got no money but f*ck it" ... and went to a sheffield meet once too.

Much better site.
Limited use of signatures is good too... and those that do have them should not have big bold ones!

scott.parker
31-01-06, 06:00 PM
Well i like many enjoyed the old one,but thats only as your use to it,im sure in time i will like this one as much, but the only thing that bugs me is it seams too dull i recon the darker greay could do with being say a light almost sky blue color.

all the same though very fast to use and good job:thumb:

I disagree, if you just have plain text or links in your sig it becomes harder to spot with ease where the post ends and the sig begins

novaco
31-01-06, 07:20 PM
not to keen on it lol but like said i was used to the old one so in time this one will grow on me!

as for signatures i liked them the way they were! it took me ages to get mine they way i wanted it lol

Migweb is a better colour scheme.blue and grey.

Mig stuck to the standard colour scheme, we decided to go with something different. All forums these days are blue and grey lol

Jack
01-02-06, 04:43 PM
As opposed to grey and... grey? :p

sh0rty
01-02-06, 06:01 PM
lmfao i just said the same to kev, this is near enough a pale blue and grey lol. people will like, people will dislike, content is the same but this site now works better, and all the addons etc work.

True, but surely they'd have blocked the domain www.novaload.net

Adam
03-02-06, 06:54 PM
Perhaps they blocked www.novaload.net/forumS

So it lets /forum through.

Aye that's what I was thinking :thumb: Probably a general */forums/ block

wisewood
05-02-06, 10:28 AM
its probably a block on the /forums URL. The new one will be blocked again when they realise what you're doing lol
