Is basic head porting as easy as some say it is?
Could one use a black and decker multitool (like dremal)?
I have done a bit of research and best (and simplest) things to do:
-remove burrs
-ensure everything is tapored like a venturi
-use a good gastket to match the inlet manifold
-polish the exhaust ports and leave the inlets rough
anything else I can do?
naturally I will be using an expendable head when I get one (or is it really that simple to do?)
thoughts...

if u wanna do it properly u need to cut the valve guides out.
you dont have to "cut" the guides out lol. you can get away without that.
just get hold of the past 6 or 8 issues of PPC as there is a kick ass guide from Dave vizzard about this stuff. Or get one of his books

its the way i would do it, it would make far better flow from scratch, then new guides in, bish bosh bash, more power.

By valve guides what do you mean? (I have never taken apart/looked at a head properly before)
Are they the same as putting in new valve stem seals? I think I have a set of them as there are 8 and they came with a pack of gaskets.
Can they just be removed and replaced? Why does that help?
Valve guides are what the valves like sit and move in.
They are pressed into the head IIRC.

So whats the point on replacing them?

As stu said, you dont have to cut them out, jst leave them and port th front area, but if you want more power(proberbly something you should'nt do if you have never ported before(,you grind out the guides and port everywer. You should get a spare head or two too practice on, if it aint smooth and has big groove in it theres no point in starting it.

you can get porting kits on ebay, i bought one and the ports were smooth and shiny:D but i was too lazy to take the valves out, i just did it to the downward curve into the cylinders;)
Has anyone got any pics or pointers on this? I was thinking on a got old bit of P&P for project Budget.
