I'm at the final stages after replacing my head gasket and I'm slightly confused. Do the bolts on the camshaft housing cover need to be torqued down or just done until tight? Also I'm not sure what it means by doing them in a "diagonal sequence".

Cheers.

"diagonal sequence"

that is so u tighten the bolts evenly, not just horse 1 at a time

Start on the btm left then the one diagonaly across from it and so on.

Makes sense lol. To a specific torque?

Also got a spare cable hanging around if anybody wants to diagnose it lol

how much and how long has it taken you to change your head gasket?

That cable is for the autochoke connection on a pierburg 2e3 carb.
Its not needed if you have a 1.2, just tape it back up in the loom.

Torque of the rocker cover bolts is in the haynes, but i didn't do mine to a specified torque, i just tightened them. lol

will it be ok just to tighten them with a spanner?

Hmm, yer.
As long as they clamp the rocker gasket so that it doesn't leak oil, it should be fine :)

hopefully its the cork gasket. if so then get a 12mm drill (i think its 12mm check) and ream out the holes so that the cover dosent crip the gasket down oddly. then bang on some RTV and then nip each bolt down alternately

?27 for a head gasket set including new head bolts. ?7 for new anti-freeze for refilling the coolant. And has taken about 2 days because it's the very first thing I've done to an engine ever. :P

Can't find a torque in Haynes, I'll just tighten them till I think it fit. Cheers for the fast responses all 8)

there is a torque setting in Haynes, not sure exactly where it is. i think its before the engine though, its something like 36-38 NM then you turn it a further 60 degrees

also anyone got any ideas on the cable to connect and autochoke to a 1.2 without the cable?

that sounds like an onld head gasket tightening spec lol. you dont want to put 36Nm and 60 deg onto an M6 bolt!!!!

The rocker cover bolt is 8Nm.

Ha my torque wrench goes down to 28Nm. I hope my estimate is close.

Meh, just tighten them with a 10mm spanner, thats what i did.

sorry, i aint got my Haynes so don't know the setttings, best to look :P

does anyone know what power to connect to the autochoke? :?

mine only starts at 28NM  anything less should be tighten enough so it doesn't fall off

What do you mean?
A 1.2 doesn't have a autochoke, only 1300/1400SR.

well done mate, its not as hard as people think. Also saves a lot of money on labour by doing it yourself, plus you learn what does what.

There will be a connection on the 1.4carb just plug that black plug onto that connection.
It should be taped up near the starter motor loom on cars that didn't have an autochoke to start with.
