View Full Version : Engine almost dead
well in theory, it is dead, discovered why its runing and sounding like a diesel, head gasket has gone, there was no water in the water pot, just a thick goop, its all on the cam and oil cap as well, and there oil all over the top of the engine, no idea how long ive been driving it like that for, a few weeks i htink, before xmas!
problem is, im gonna need the car for all this week and will probably do about 50 miles!
engine conversion is going to have to come sooner than planned!

Do the head gasket and flush the oil, thats if u havent melted the head or even the block between bore's. What engine is it?
considering ive been driving it like it since before xmas, its probably almost dead, im just topping up the water at the mo to keep it going that little longer, im working all this week so i need the car, it could be next tuesday by the time i can get it down the garage for the engine transplant, and thats provding i can get the engine dropped off there!
i even have a recovery truck in my speed dial just in case, i travel about 20miles to and from work
my only fear is that the new engine will be knackered, why else would the gte it was in of been scrapped?

LOL, I used to blow my engines up jst so i a reason to put a bigger engine in it.
ive almost sorted everything out, car to go in next week, get the new engine dropped off the same day, ?150 for the engine, ?170 to the mechanic, ?15 to insurance to have it changed, all i gotta do now is notify the DVLA, do i just send off the log book with the new details?

Yep :D
just put the new engine size in, the new engine number and send the logbook off.
You will need to send it off so that the tax bracket can be changed, as it will go up from ?110 per year to ?170 i think it is.
I would guess the nova gte engine would be going spare because the shell was rotten and needed scrapping? I dont really think anyone scraps a nova because of a knackered engine.
where will i be able to find the new engine number?
As you look into the engine bay its stamped onto the top face of the engine block.
Next to spark plug number 4.
The engine code will also be stamped there. E16se etc
change of plan, its a 1.6 from a gsi, im taking the car and engine to the body shop tomorrow, same engines arent they? only difference being a dispak on the gsi engines?
willthe ecu and fuel pump from the corsa correspond to the gsi engine?
It depends how old the GSI is.
It might be exactly the same engine, e16se.
Not all GSi's were Dispak.
But it might be the newer c16se, which is a lot harder to wire in.
well the car is gone, its in the bodyshop, just looked at the engine, it is a e16se, but there was no dizzy or dispak with it, so duno which one it is!
will the new engine work with the 1.4 fuel tank and pump and ignition coil?
