avi file problems

been downloading series 2 of lost and just recently the laptop just crashes for no aparent reason, only seems to do it with avi files not mpegs. It goes into the blue screen of death then reboots except all the display settings are fucked and the screen is all fuzzy so i have to cold reboot and then the display is fine. wtf is going on!!! im not currently running any virus software either :roll:
any help mucho apreciated as its drivin me nuts!!

Dodgy codecs? How up to date is your media player, and do you have DivX?

Il reply for andy coz hes at work at the mo and he wont be able to get on tinternet to reply anyway as it keeps crashing and rebooting.
we have a new version of media player he downloaded it last night and divx doesnt even open. :o

If DivX doesn't open I'd guess its a problem with that...

Can you restore back to a point before you had the problem?

Un-install div-x and re-install it.
