One word...
Datsun
A friend of mine owns a Pulsar GTi-R
They are very quick as standard - And grip like anything...
However- everything is way more complex than a nova, a couple of weeks owning it and it's Clutch Slave cylinder has gone = ?50....
Also the Intercooler is on the top of the engine = not good at all unless air is pelting through the stupid bonnet vent.
Nice touches like a Umbrella in the doorstop ala rolls royce.
But honestly, try finding one that's not been ragged to death = impossible.
The same engines come in Uk spec Nissan 200SX's, much chance of finding a less screwed one

try find a nova that hasnt been hammered ! ! ! realistically you can never know,
i know they are expensive but thats the price you pay for a high performance car,
1 previous ower female, that doesnt mean she isnt the shittest awfulll red linin crapp driver out there
tbh i'd steer clear of a pulsar.... ther a money machine... my mate works at a jap import garage and i was talkin to him about them and he sed.. dont get one it wont be long before yu've spent what you did on the car in repairs....

Rare car = Rare parts => Rare parts = ???'s.
It's not a car you can get a part from any random scrap yard!
You want a Pulsar GtiR after you get 1 years no claims? How old will you be at this point? I think you are living in a dream world if you think Insurance will be cheap after 1 year of driving.
Jim

The Sunny GTiR is a group 19 car. The Pulsar is an import.... Forget it. You won't see insurance on them until you're 21+ with a big fat NCB and clean license on a standard one, let alone modified.
Whats next, a Skyline GTR? :p

a 2lt nova will be more reliable and cheaper to run than R5. The pulsars are very good 0-60 car, they just take off from an go. Put like said they go through clutches like i do hot meals.

Erm let's think about this...
Nova - Mass produced economical car, use by chavs yes, but also used by people as economical low-cost runabouts.
Pulsar GTi-R - Sought after jap-import performance car. Sought after because of it's stupid 0-60 capability (let's face it , they aren't sought after because of looks - the look like a shit-Box)
If the GTiR hasn't been ragged in this country, it will sure as hell been ragged around japan. end of story.

Yep your right phil, a XE nova is a much cheaper and easier thing to manage, plus it isn't insurance group 20 , just the traction and handling you'l be down on
plus it isn't insurance group 20
Technically a Pulsar isn't a group 20 :P
Are those rice burners 995cc 3 cylinder turbo's? Or am i thinking of the charade or some other japanese miracle machine?
Philsutton
18-01-06, 08:03 PM
lol no your thinking of the charade, this is a pulsar
2lt turbo i think 4x4
http://www.smartycars.com/Dealers/29/photos/K620FLS/picture_1.jpg
2.0 Turbo, 4x4 (hence why the 0-60 is so damned quick lol)... same engine as the 200SX (SR20DET) but a touch more power (230bhp iirc)
The charade is the 1.0 jobbie, the turbo-ed CB engine is 993cc and tops 100bhp :D
lol no your thinking of the charade, this is a pulsar

that's the badger
I personally think they're ugly as hell...
They put down stupid 0-60 times 5.4 with a bit of tuning. Also the grip from take-off is pheonominal.
Philsutton
19-01-06, 10:18 AM
i saw one at modified nationals that smoked all wheels on the spot for about 1 second then go, it did a 3 second 0-60, 5.4 aint that quick as 2lt nova will do that :D

where did u get that pic, it looks very very much like a garage in darlington ? dya no where it is, if its here then ill do some tire kicking he he he
i didnt say i was gonna get one at 19 with a year no claim, i said i was looking for cars to get like almera gti, clio williams, all about 1400 a year which is wot i pay now for a 1.4, i said id seen the pulsar and dreamed of it,
cars have faults, money, mechanical,looks,
can you really think of a car when its running thatd be more fun than a pulsar tuned up?? i mean you can have the bhp of a styline impreza ect but with half the weight and size and still 4wd, i wouldnt get one due to money and problems but i bet it is very nice if you can afford it,
them charades are meant to be pretty lethal rare things
anyone know what insurance group the nova 2ltr is, roughly ??
anyone know what insurance group the nova 2ltr is, roughly ??
It cant really have a group, as it doesn't exist in standard form.
As for prices, your probably talking a few hundred more than a 2L cav/calibra, if you find someone to actually insure the engine conversion.
A Clio Williams is group 17 insurance.
If you pay ?1400 on a 1.4, you probably talking ?3000-?4000 on a clio williams. If someone will actually take the chance and insure you.
My advice, stick with the 1.4 for a few more years.

no thanks, itl go down loads with a years no claims, already looked into it, it cost 1400 a year on TPTF, as i had a group 7car, that broke so i had to stay with same insurer to carry on my 6months no claims, so it cost n extra 22? a month to insure a group 6/7 SR, i checked if i get an almera GTI group 14, ill be paying 1400 TPFT with a years no claims so thats the same price for double the insurance group
dya no where it is, if its here then ill do some tire kicking he he he
They'll take one look at you and laugh  seriously though, some sellers didn't think I was serious when I went to look at GTO's, and even now when I've looked at a couple GZ Supras recently (even when turning up in the gt4)
can you really think of a car when its running thatd be more fun than a pulsar tuned up?? i mean you can have the bhp of a styline impreza ect but with half the weight and size and still 4wd
Yeah, a tuned SX or GTST, drifty drifty  It'd need a fair amount of money to get to good Skyline power (assuming GTR), although tbh I think I'd rather have the protection of a big fat car round me - the pulsars look a little, erm, rollable lol... but each to their own
anyone know what insurance group the nova 2ltr is, roughly ??
Some companies used to insure them as the donor car, but not any more afaik. Rough guess would be about the price of an Astra GTE + a sizeable percent on top.
Philsutton
19-01-06, 05:27 PM
most companies insure a 2lt nova as the donor car the engine came out of, so when they say what car it came out of say cav.
pulsar are awsome been in one very very quick! all imports unless looking for the ultra rare sunny gti-r only 200 made i beleive. not everyone cup of tea in looks but i liek erm! 200sx another cheap as chips cars and always worth double what you pay (unless its a bill lol) another very good cheap turbo car!
know 2 people who own both very good cars to have would rather have either of them than a skyline imo. skyline always reminds me of the fast and the furious and people who know shit about cars when asked what car they would have say skyline (no offence intended to anyone!) not to say they arnt good cars and very tuneable etc but not my cup of tea.
but i could go on and on about these sorts of cars this is all i talk about with me mates and the fact one has just got an evo 6 the topic just changes from car to car instead other other things lol
anyway said what i want to say im done :D
p.s. jack when you gonna get a real car lol :D joke would love the gt4 very nice :D

You don't mention any of the above cars in detail, you simply go on about a Gti-R. So that's where we got the assumption that you were after one
I still think you're dreaming if you think you can afford a powerful car with one years NCB. I refuse to pay stupid money for Insurance, they rip you off as it is. ?1400TPFT sounds expensive to me. Not being funny, but you can pick up an Almera Gti for as little as ?1200 and you want to spend ?1400 on TPFT Insurance? Each to their own I guess...
Jim

just for your interest..
the Almera GTi's are an SR20DE
Which if i remember correctly, is the same engine as the pulsar/200SX minus the turbo :-D
p.s. jack when you gonna get a real car lol
stfu civic boy
I have to say I do respect the Skyline R34GTR, but I wouldn't want one... as you say because of the F&F. Thats one of the things that puts me off the Supra at the moment as well. Very very good cars but they hold a certain thing with the chav crowd and thats attention I wouldn't really want.
Was considering a 200 before I bought the GT4, but the insurance is quite expensive for what you get really, due to younger kids buying them as they're cheap, and wrapping them round trees lol

nothing wrong with paying the money, i pay 1400 for a cack 1.4 nova, so i wouldnt care about paying 1400 next year for a 2ltr gti,
also look at it this way, 1400 a year is ?116 pm
i was getting quotes for group 5, 1.6 astra sxi, for 1050.
which was 87pm,
when you split an extra 350 ish over a year its only extra ?25pm,
so i look at it as, keep a crappy 1400 for another year, or pay an extra 25 a month for a nice newer car, + im cursed with buying old cheap cars !!

Yeah the 200sx'x either have the CA18DET or the SR20DET so a SR20DE is just a 2 litre dohc. Which in my opinion isnt that great, as the fun thing about the engines is you can tune it slightly and put the boost up and you have a fair amount more power.

correct me i'f i'm wrong but the S13's have the 1.8T and the S14's have the 2.0 turbo ?
Orange andy - You've made a massive post in general saying about how amazing nova's are, now your saying it's a crappy 1.4 - make your mind up

?100+ per month on insurance... you're MENTAL!!!
Get rid of the 1.4, buy yourself a 1.0 and save some money for a couple of years, then buy yourself a nice new car with the money you've saved

nah i love it for fun, but i either want a car for comfort that aint a beast like a 3dr 1.6 astra sxi,
or pure speed like a nova 2ltr or tuned up 1.6
i do love me car for "WHAT" it is, but i wanan upgrade when i get a years no claims,. id rather pay 115 for an almera gti, than pay 88 with my current 1.4 sr, to be onest, same goes for getting a gsi id rather pay for that than a 20saving on keepin my 1.4 great car, just wanna upgrade
Problem with insurance is you have to ask yourself how much are you prepared to lose in the event of a claim... paying ?1400 on a Nova, realistically you're only going to get ?3-500 if the insurance company decide to write it off (and they probably would for a rusty door lol), and out of that comes your excess. At least with the Almera its probably worth a few quid more, but again how much of your premium will you get back in the event of a claim?
correct me i'f i'm wrong but the S13's have the 1.8T and the S14's have the 2.0 turbo ?
In the UK the C18DET is in the S13, and the C20DET is in the S14 and S14a; however the Silvias (i.e. Japan and US S14's) have the non turbo C20DE engine as well as the DET.
p.s. jack when you gonna get a real car lol

i think the problem with people wrapping them around tress is that they are cheap to get hold of a turbo car, they will drive fwd cain it around the corner panic take there foot of the pedal and spin and straight into a tree.
na i dont see the supra in that light if you tastfully modify it rims etc no body kit but then spend money on the engine! thats the way forward!
but then again liike the celica you got jack to the other shapes not into the old or new shape but etc to there own!
anyway about the civic comment buddy! lol good call lol
A years no-claim means nothing at all - Your still a 18/19 year old and insurance will be a killer.
Mine is 1k TPFT and i'm ont a stupid mileage polcy - only reason they'd insure me as i live in portsmouth for 36 weeks a year, and the car is 400 miles away
Im so happy to be an old **** that can insure most cars on this planet for under a grand (and a fair few motorbikes too!)
as for the post - Why not stick with existing nova and then enjoy reduced insurance? Or is that too much like common sense?
in with phllis and gymbo here lol.
not sure what they did to start with but i got a 1.2 nova and ran it for 5 years to get full ncb etc so i could then insure something a bit sillier for naff all
the last year of nova insurance was ?180 lmao, and the omega was about ?450 for a year.....
I got a quote for a MK2 ST2 the other day and thats a mere ?600FC
basically what i (and others are saying) yes its boring to run a slow car etc while some of your mates are willing to jizz their money up the wall in fuel/insurance/tax but think of how much of a "beter" car you can get with the X thousands saved per year.... or progessively build up a fast nova.
meh i guess im old lmao
...and if they're spending all their money on their cars, you'll have more for the better things in life (drink, women, pr0n, women, pr0n, drink, pr0n, women, drink, etc)
...and if they're spending all their money on their cars, you'll have more for the better things in life (drink, women, pr0n, women, pr0n, drink, pr0n, women, drink, etc)
like your thinking jack lol
its stupid really my mate is a good wage and just got a y-reg evo 6 and is paying 2200 on insurance i mean he can afford it but fuckin jesus im only just gonna be paying 2000 or a new car never mind the insurance!
