iv'e been looking at 19s for my next project nova. with a normal offset the wheels will catch the suspension so iv'e been told et42 would be the best, the novas havin wide arches so how far they stick out shouldn't be a problem.
however, 19s in et42 are over a grand but iv'e seen a few sets for a good price but there offsets are et 35, 38 and also 45.

would any of these be ok/better than the other or should i just payup and get some in et42?

cheers

If your putting wide arches on it, you'll be wanting a higher offset than 42, unless your planning on using loads of spacers.

What offst you'll need I have no idea though.

ahhhh but you peeps dont know what they are going on. as for the offset might be worth going to an alloy wheel place and just trying out some different offsets

All depends on width - offset is directly linked to width.

A rough guide would be:

width up to 6.5 inch 49mm offset
7 inch 45mm offset
8 inch 38mm offset
9 inch 30mm offset.

see my guide here... (http://forums.roybacer.net/index.php?showtopic=1461)

i thought about this when i had my old nova but most places i went to stocked f*ck all. will give a few places a ring again though to see what they have.

these are the wheels i'm lookin at, if you look further down the page he offers different pcd and offset, all at the same price(i checked).

but then you can see in the picture the problem i'll have with the bigger wheel catching the suspension.

He lists them as 7.5 J (thats 7.5 inch wide)

so with a lil investigation would ad 1.5 inches on to the width.
Based on the pic above (which is a Compmotive MO 15x6inch 49mm offset)

additional rim width= 1.5 inchs = 38mm
(ud want to ad about 10mm of that to inside face, and 28mm to the outside face)
28-10 = 18mm (works out difference in offset required)
49-18 = 31mm offset required (approx)

so on those rims the closest ud get is 25mm.

that would add 4mm to inide face and 34mm to the outside - meaning a huge arch modification.

This doesnt even start to touch on tyre size.
a 195 45 15 tyre has an overal Dia of 278mm
a 205 30 19 tyre has an overal Dia of 303mm (if you can get them)
so means the tyre is 12.5mm closer to the bottom of the spring cup. - and thats gonna cause even more issues - the only way round that is Coilovers - and even thats no guarentee.

anything more than 16s (maybe 17s) requires expert and expensive modification to both, suspension and bodywork - not to mention the strains it puts on bearings etc.

unless u have a bottomless wallet and want a car that will be a pig to drive and look way out of proportion - id stick to 15s or 16s.
