hi im just wondering how hard is it 2 chop the back off a nova hatch as i have a car im breaking and thought why not try and make my own pickup :o im not that good with a angle grinder. Just realy wanting 2 know whats the 1st step 2 take.

if you really want to now how to turn a 3door into a pick and how to do it etc pm baxter or burgo they both have done this and they should be able to help also like everyone said nows the time to practise you'r not gonna lose out cause its gettin broken down anyway!

na mig is perfect for the job its what i used anyway. i spose i should say you need all the relative safety gear aswell

how long did it take you 2 chop the roof off luke and thats a astra mk 3 boot ill need issent it?

its a m3 astra estate tailgate i think.

no its a mk2 astra van/estate tailgate. plus yes goggle, welding mask, fire extinguisher. and it took me about 5 mins. it took 6 hours from starting to having the astra tailgate fully welded in plus the back done and it driveable again.

i payed a tenner. if you can get one from an estate then you will have a washer jet wiper and heated window which all plug into the nova plugs :)

did you just use normal masking tape luke? and how did you get such a straight cut on the roof?

it doesn't matter what tape you use as your going to be cutting along it, however the masking tape wont melt n go messy like celotape.

straight line is a simple case of practice makes perfect, i'd start with a small hand grinder as there easier to work with.

well got a bit bored 2day and thought illed get the nova ready for its convershion. All ive done so far is strip out the back i still need 2 take off the boot and take the back windows out but ill leave that till the day of the chop :D

as you can see from the pics the car needs its wheels back on the front :D :D

Thairs a little bit of serface rust in the boot nothing 2 worry about tho

the rear arches are gone and i gave up on the project so i brought another one :o

im only choping it up otherwise shes off 2 the scrappy

seems a shame though, from what i can see the rear inner arches look ok, and the door doesn't look to bad, sell it as a rolling shell. :wink:

finally got round 2 stripping the rest of the back out windows ect only thing is ive come across some realy nasy rust o/s inner arch is on its way out are theses dear 2 replace?

get it level before welding that pannel in!
Or have you jsut done this to say "yeah i built a pickup" and not making it into a proper car again

i do plan on leveling it off befor welding in the back pannel mate
and no im not doing this just 2 say ive made a pickup im doing it so its drivable again

and for all you that fink ive butchered a good nova well i havent the rear arches are dead also one of the rear inner arches and the gearbox is on its way out. The car was going 2 the scrappy as we need the room in our drive so i thought i would give making a pickup ago
