View Full Version : plastic cam belt cover can it b left off

cant undo crankshaft pulley bolt it jus turn round even wi car in car an brake being prssed can i jus cut the plastic cover off so i can get 2 water pump

how important is the cover

you can leave it off..

some say keep it on but tbh if your not going to be living on a gravel track/sitting in the run off at the track its fine...

lots of motorsport/rally folk leave them off.

do i need 2 make note of an timing marks on the cover before i cut it off or r the same marks on block head etc

i jsut used the pin on the block for TDC marks and ignored the cam marks as i was timing up different to STD anyway lol

jam the flywheel so you can take off pulley

or an air rachet will get it off most of the time.

leave it on just takes a stone maybe unlikely but if it did happen you would be kicking yourself

Safer with it on, then again I drove round for a year with no cover and had no problems, play the percentages!

take the king lead off coil get a half inch breaker bar with 17mm socket on put it on bottom pulley nut wedge the bar aginst the floor and spin engine over thatll do it :lol:
