the timing might be out on the distributor side, have you taken the distributor out??

its not the carb, unless the throttle cable aint connected

definately the distributor side, did you put the rotor on the right way?? and are the HT leads on in the right order, they go 1-3-4-2, take spark plug 1 out and turn the engine the way its meant to go till you feel it compress and turn it till its reached the top of compresseion (put your thump over the hole to feel it) then put HT lead 1 where it matches on the distributor, then fit them in that order in the direction the engine turns :)

all leads r on correct an in right order

the only thing i can think of is when i got it i didnt check levels drove it home then used it 2 move another car about 8 metres then it started 2 make a squeling noise turn ed engined off looked under bonnet found there was no water left filled it up an it seemed ok

but even if water pump is nackered it shouldnt do that should it ?

:? might do because the water pumps on the timing belt, so if the water pump is very hard to turn it will put stress on the engine and not make it run like its meant to

engine turns fine with ratchet on cam pulley gets a little stiff when piston num1 is nearly at tdc is this normal

it does that with mine, i think its the thingy erm... change in direction and travel etc, it wont be there when the engines running because it will be constant :D
