the jobbies we sell at halfords seem to be problematic.. medion pda 100, navman pin 570, aa navigator - crash regularly. Trouble with pda's is they're a bit of a faff imo. I'de suggest maybe buy a hewlit parkard or summat from pc world, etc then buy a gps ariel for it, then download tom tom navigation software onto it...?

Chris,

I have a Dell X5 pda with GPS and TomTom and I think the're great.

I have also downloaded the speedcamera overlays which are quite good in areas where you are not familiar - download from :

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com

I sourced mine from ebay about 12 months ago and it cost about ?260 which I thought was good value at the time.

I used it extensively when we went on holiday this year around Wiltshire and Bath. Having only ever driven through the area once it was a real god send. Type in either the postcode or the address and away you go!

The pda route is not as all in one package as the tomtom go's but with the PDA's you can do lots of other stuff like MP3's , diaries, address book, emails (with the right gear) - the list grows daily!

The pocketgpsworld site also does reviews of some of the gear available and was my first port of call for research before I bought one.

One other thing I was also advised to aviod the blue tooth gps modules as they can be a real pain to link to correctly. I use one that plugs into the CF slot on the top.

Something like this with TomTom 5 would be ideal I would think :-

Hope all this info helps!!
