I got a BMW E32 730i on a H plate with leather and all the toys inside, 128k motorway miles, about 190bhp. New MOT, 4 new Pirelli P7 tyres (?100 a corner) Unmodified and unmolested, no expense spared on the rare occasions when anything needed attention. Will do straight swap, I collect?

Cool, no worries mate! IMO I wouldn't go for a 1.8, they will seem disappointing after driving such a rapid Nova. I drove a friends 318i E36 and later drove his E36 325i and the difference is phenominal, you get a car with an engine to truely match the chassis with the 2.5. Plus the 2.5 is easier to tune, it leaves more doors open....
