View Full Version : GSI 3 Spoke Wheels And Brake Discs
hi, what is the biggest brake disc's u can fit with gsi 3spoke alloys?
Cheers, Martin
the biggest you could fit is prob corsa gsi 256x20mm but you would have to grind the caliper down :o which imo is very cowboy
if you want to keep the wheels just fit some gsi brakes - although these aint that good really
there would definately be grinding of the caliper involved if you wanted to fit the ATE calipers & 256mm discs. I tried to fit some before and once the wheel as put over the brakes it could not be turned!
Either buy GSi/GTE brakes which are much better than the std 1.0-SR brakes or buy different rims

ATE 16v brakes arent really an option, however the 8v cav kit should be with 256x20 disks. You may have to use part worn pads, as obv the calliper gets marrower as the pads wear.
i'v got cav 1.7TD brakes ready to go on but i dnt want 2 change my wheels
just to add to this how would i stand with cav 1.8 setup?
want to use the 3 spokes but have the cav wheels if necessary.
cheers

the cav 1.7td ones will be 256x20mm as opposed to the 256x24mm fitted to the 16v's
these should fit under the 3 spokes alright as they are narrower

just measured them up and the are 265x20mm. so hopefully should fit, just need some good weather tomorrow.

when taking it apart do not undo the union on the brake line
remove the old caliper and tie it up out the way
remove the old disk
fit new disk and caliper and test the wheel on it
IF it works then unbolt the brake line from the old caliper and move it to the new one

that was my exact plan. although i have got to replace the brake fluid at some point anyway.

Morning chaps,
you can fit the ATE 16V brakes under the gsi rims i know this because ive got em on and they are fine...no grinding required either but theres not room for a knats cock between the calliper and rim so if i buckle one im stooged.lol.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!!!
Scott.
i haven't been able to get started yet! bloody rain
cheers for all the help

Nova brakes are rubbish and seize if left standing - i chucked them and fitted my astra mk3 vented discs and calipers which i had left over when I put Cav GSi brakes on my Astra.
The Astra brakes on my Nova are so much better and I've still got the GSi 3 spokes.
