View Full Version : Freshining up a E16SE
Ok I've ordered some parts from Vaux as a starter
So far ordered;
Rocker cover gasket
Headgasket
Inlet manifold gasket
Distributor
Plugs and Leads
Oil filter
Air filter
What else should I be thinking about replacing, obviously the cambelt and water pump, but what other things go wrong on this engine and what should I think about replacing to keep the old girl fresh?

might as well do sump gastket while your at it lol

Ahh yes sump gasket, god damm it forgot that one.
Yes, its all coming to pieces and being painted.
check all coolant pipe, replace any that look worn, for get some samco's?
I have checked them all, they are all fine. Even if they were worn I have spares. Just need to clean them up.

Rotor arm & rocker cover breather gauze.
Have the injectors cleaned. I gained 13% more flow rate on mine from a E16SE.
Get some electrical contact spray for all the loom plugs etc.

i'd only do sump if it was leaking.
valve stem seals might be an idea if you don't know how long ago they were done.
might aswell do the shells and have the rods checked too if you are doing the sump gasket and taking the head off

if your taking the head off you need to replace the head bolts as theses are stretch bolts

if the ehad is off, then check the bores for ovality... no point freshening a tired engine

I'd second the cleaning of the injectors notion, definately worth it

if so get sum carb cleanner and clean the icv!

i assume your joking there.
Just replacing the head gasket doesn't qualify as a rebuild lol.

No not rebuilding it :lol: just new gasket sets, valve stem seals.
On another note, just been down Halfrauds for the distributor and HT leads, there are 3 different types of distributor a female & male connection type, what one am I looking for?

Yep, valve stem oil seals being replaced as well.
then deffo relap the valves! free power to be regained there.
get the head faced too to make sure its flat (its like a tiny tiny skim).
and acid bathe it to get all the crap off it and out of the oilways and so on.
had the bores ovality checked yet?

Well if I'm replacing the headgasket then having the headskimmed was a must anyway, I might even replace the valves anyway, and the rings.
As for the bores ovality, come again :lol:
take the block to an engine machine shop and get them to measure the bores to see if they are round etc.... if they are out of round then the rings wont seal right and the engine loses power amongst other things.
