Reminds me when i on my way to uni last year. It was rush hour so the traffic was stand still down a dual carriage way, and about a mile away i saw said smack head completely off hiss head walking down the middle of the road. The funny thing is i thought to myself he's going to come an talk to me for some reason. Well he walked past about 200 cars an got to mine then started banging on the window like something out of night of the living dead. Must be the nova that did it, but if you drive one people will think your a twat simple as really

The Nova does carry a stigma. I suppose most people view cars for the worst side of drivers and not the better . Even the Streets has a Nova mentioned in his lyrics. Its not fair but these cars do attract attention - an awful lot of it isnt for better either.Maybe its an easy target , speshly if the driver is young........
I,m 38 yrs old ( still look like a 21 year old porn star of course ) and I,ve noticed the glares and looks my car gets - til I get out of it . I think the few who have scowled at it ( mostly at petrol pumps and traffic lights ) have expected a young boy racer to emerge from the driving seat other than a bloke of my age ( praps they even look in the car for a son or daughter ) and size. The Nova is after all widely known to be an original boy racers car. But , that doesnt give any other car owner the right to behave in an ignorant manner. And there are tons of aggresive , ignorant drivers on the road today.
I,ve argued , shouted and beeped my horn at a few peeps , but have found the best way ( in my opinion ) to deal with such folk is to beep the horn ,drive real slow , smile like a buffoon and wave like mad . It,ll stick in their memory a damn sight longer , as they try to figure out , was the person I,ve just cut up/ screwed up someone I know...........????

i dont know why they got a bad name, i mean people just rip them, but for what you pay you cant go wrong, value for money, parts servicing taxing tuning, speed, beat any car HANDS DOWN, i think people are just jelous that you get such a good package, it aint all people who drive a nova that are little rogues or chavs its just a car, i mean most modded cars saxos corsas all blitz about and do handbrake turns now and then, so how is that different from a nova, i aint done handis like bollox to that,

me mate always says to me HAMMER IT ITS A NOVA, im like no its a nice car but whats the point in ruining it and having it end up hammered like the noas people seems to connect ANY nova to

Yeah, Nova's cop a lot of stick. If someone wants to stereotype a badly driven car, chances are they will choose Nova! It rolls off the tongue too easily.

Tbh back in the day (kinda) Escorts & before that Capri's got the stick. People will slowly forget about Nova's being badly driven or whatever.

I think a lot of the stigma within the modding scene is jealousy based, sure most folk have been chased out of town by a 1.0 Nova with a backbox big enough to house 3 Nova's in but most people are probably jealous that the car is so well catered for in terms of modifications & its popularity.

i was saying to a mate at work about a good car to start to drivin in and the only one i could think of was a nova, the only little let down on them for a first car is they are a bit too easy to break in to. oth wise there so cool to look at the lines the shape the sound.
it so mucha shame about the image i sawe i nice SRi the other day gave the thumbs and and he smililed back . i think nova are starting to get the whole mini beeping the horn thing going,
LONG LIVE THE NOVA

I,ve had work mates take the rise of me having a Nova.......didnt seem t matter tho , when it was raining and they wanted a lift home.

Crazy as it may seem , on an earlier thread on general chat about rust , a bloke I,ve described on there commented on how many Novas there seem to be on the road today. I think he has a point - of late I,ve seen loads.Perhaps the current fuel prices will enforce a trend and comeback ??
Gas guzzlers they aint !

its always people who have never owned one (or a good one) who slag them. when people say there sh!t i just say "How?, explain?" and they never can because its just one of those things people say for the sake of it.

good news is that corsa's and saxo's have already started to get a bad name and it'll eventually be ok again to own one. they are definitely getting rarer each day though

hmm nova's are pretty crappy cars lets face it. They were a cheap car made for the masses

A friend of mine has a BMW 323 coupe that's not massivly newer than mine - And my god it looks like it was built 30 years later.

After the right set of suspension, brake up-grades and a new engine or some performance work they are quite good little cars.

But TBH i'd rather have the choice to go out there and buy a car that handled right, was quick and stopped straight from the factory

Jack
25-12-05, 11:03 PM
To be fair though, in the Nova's defence it was only designed as a 'cheap' car to take on the Fiesta, 205, Uno etc.

Nova's are great wee motors!
Dunno what you'll think of this, but I've had a Nova (first car), 200SX, 2 Supra Mk 3's, an Impreza Turbo, a Mark 1 MR2, a Mk 2 MR2 Turbo, 2 convertible Ford Escorts, a Series 1 Escort RS Turbo, Civic VTi, a Corsa 2.0L 16v, and a good few other cars. Had most for a few months, select few for over 6 months.
And I've just settled on the car I'm going to keep for the next few years.
a 2.0L A reg Nova.
There is just something about them! I nearly stuck with the Corsa but I wanted a Nova more!
I'll get pics up of the new motor when I pick it up on Saturday...

i saw somone i went to school with the other day and i said you driven then, he was like yer just sold my corsa and baught a 1.8 focus.
he said you got a car i said yer a nova.

he smerked, and was like oh rite.
met him out last night and we went for a quick drive , he was in front and he couldnt even get away from me, i felt like i could of had him, and mines only a 1.4 and its 10 years older than his.

then he had more respect for it.

but yer people at work think im just some kn*b with a loud car.

.

Well he wasn't pushing the focus.

A friend of mine has a 1.8 focus, and not that i go around trying to race him, but leaving junctions and hooting it up to 60 on A roads, it keeps up suprisingly well.

And mines a 1.6 on t40''s

we're forgetting 1 thing here peeps!!! who undermine and target the nova more than any1??? The Police, back in the day when i had my 1st nova i got 5 producers in 1 night!!! After about 3 months i knew all the local coppers by 1st name. I remember 1 copper saying i pulled u over because your exhaust looked illegal! lol it was a big bore 4 granted but it aint a bloody bazooka! lol.
Everytime i went out i'd get pulled! But its all part of the fun and experience of owning the best little car in the world!!

I still get jip when i tell people at uni what i drive, when i say ive got an astra they dont seem bothered then i tell em i have a nova as well they always ask if it have big wheels, snow plow bumper, bazooka exhaust, blue neons and drum n bass coming from the subs.

The only reason some of us like novas is because they are retro, cheap easy to maintain and repair - i love it because its a simple car to work on, even though people will think of me as a loud boy racer chav lout.

i couldnt believe my lobes last Thursday...I,ve just started a new job and one of the blokes I work with is an old workmate from yonks ago. In the tea room Thursday morning the chat was about Chelsea tractors ( he wants one ) when out of the blue he mentioned a blue Nova in the car park and it,d caught his eye. I just sat there , mute expecting all sorts of jip. One of the other blokes remarked it looked tidy but didnt know who the owner was, but he too had seen it . It does stick out amongst all the new cars and more modern vechiles.
As we left at the shift end , my mate saw me getting into the car and asked how much did I pay for it in its condition and who,d done it up . I told him I,d worked on its looks , expecting a torrent of abuse - but none came. He reckoned it was credit to see an old motor being kept well....and remarked he,d like to have the time to tinker a bit an all !
I nearly fell over !

There DO seem to be a few more on the road at the moment - my cousin who,s a mobile mechanic agrees ......Petrol costs ?

It's unbelievable the amount of people who try to race you just because you're in a Nova...
The SRi has been on the road for a week now... completely standard... we've had people trying to race us when we're even driving WITHIN the speed limit showing no sign of wanting a race: a Clio Sport, Saxo, another Clio... list goes on.
They know how to embarass themselves though..! Ha.
Rant finished.

but thats because of some people who own novas, i got one because its quite nippy and cheap to look after, other people get them because they are quite nippy and FUN TO HAMMER ABOUT AND BE A LITTLE **** giving the rest of us a bad name, dring about with rusted arches and not a care in the world for the car makin it look awfull.

the worst car for that now is without a doubt saxo vtr most common boy racer car and they think they are invinsible, maybe if they actually got a vtS then theyd be a little better, i torchured one in my old baleno, french piece of poo

jbowman sorry mate but that front bumper in the pic does look like a snow plough,,

Hey orange_andy, I know what you mean about the snow plow, only had it on the car for 2 weeks, then my dad borrowed my astra while his was in for an mot and parked the car on a grass verge on the farm and accidentally ripped it off. Fed up of low bumpers so put back the gsi bumper on - as seen in cardomain, the evolution of my astra. Just wana get my nova up to standard now.
