6x9s into 2 door saloon rear shelf?

Hi all, has anyone done this without ripping big holes in the car / weakening it? Am I having a laugh?

I'm thinking about putting 6x9s in the rear shelf of my 2 door saloon (mk1). There are recesses in the rear shelf metal panel for what look like 6x4s but nothing bigger. I want to mount them flush under the shelf too. Any ideas?

I was going to do this on mine but never got round to it. My idea was to build an mdf shelf that raised up slightly so you could fit the 6x9s in behind.
