best gearbox for my nova?

currently own/just purchased a 1.6gsi with kent cam (kit) , ported polished skimmed head, +1mm kolnscmitt pistons balanced onto crank, polished crank, polished rods, arp bolts, lightened/balanced flywheel, skimmed block and a few other goodies, still running the injection and standard management (40's on way), but.............. its got some right gay long ratiod box in it, (private road figures 65mph in second 95mph in 3rd 130ish in 4th god knows in 5th? (i think it slows down lol) what im wondering is what is the best box gona be f13cr? dont want f15 as there slow top end but need something good thruought the range, what do u guys suggest? what numbers/letters should i be looking for on the side of the box near the n/s wheel? cheers j

you want a F13CR and a 4.18 FD i think lol.

do i need to put that fd in or will the f13cr come with one? not too clued up on gearboxes?

I think its a 4.18 or might be a 4.08 i dont ever bother with FD's but iirc you take the FD from a WR and fit into a CR.

And also iirc the F13 CR is 3.78FD

Its far too late to be trying to remember this stuff lol.

the 4.18 is "usually" in oddball 1.3 gearboxes and astra (small block) ones too.... its really the luck of the draw in all fairness.

yes mate, toy thru winter and track car in summer, the bmw is for sale, after a pulsar or escort cos next summer? what do you recommend, not too keen on the f15 its abit too much bottom end and not enough top end? you still got the 1.4 beast?

an F13Cr with 4.18fd will give a top speed of approx 120

but if you put the WR 5th in you can have a car that belts through the 1-4 gears then cruises up to 145ish in 5th........


the F15 isnt a bad box, its just got the "gay" FD setup lol

yeah i've still got mine, it's back on the road soon. i never get time to work on it.

i'd say fit any CR box you can get your hands on. i went from a f10w to a f15cr and it was ace. still do 130 only run out of revs now instead of power, and the acceleration is noticably better.

Those figures sound similar to a CR box anyway.
The speedo will be out a few miles too, so you already have a CR by the sounds....
