Engine Number

Is there an engine number stamped anywhere on the engine? (I assume its the VIN)

i think its on the front of the block? not 10% though

on the flat of the block face immediately to the left of cylinder No4

Is that the one that will say E16SE? or is it the VIN, or am I going mad?!

VIN is the Vehicle Identity Number, nothing to do with the engine number, this is next to the srivers seat under the carpet. The number on the engine will start E16SE, C20XE etc.

Thats what I thought!
A lad whos interested in my engine wanted to know the "engine number". This is what had confused me, I thought that he meant that the VIN was stamped on the engine somewhere, as well as the E16SE!
