right the bums in technical haven't given me an answer...so i've come here  only joking ;)
I've took out heating etc from my dash and theres a few holes, i think its the GSI dash, its leather effect with sponge underneath, i want to fill these holes and spray the dash black, in not too sure how to go about it, should i
A. fill the holes, and sand the dash so the leather effect is flat and won't show, primer it, then spray it? :?
B. fill the holes, sand the dash down, then put filler on all the dash, sand it again, primer it, then spray it? :?
holes?
erm...what holes are you refering to? Theres the ones where the centre vent goes, the ones where the glove box is, the heater controls etc...
:?
is it a mk2 dash? If so theyre all vynal on sponge backing. you can get special spray paint but unless you treat the vynal properly (and that means removing years of built in grime and that dashg polish sh1te that everyone uses) it'll never work.
Most people go for the GSi dash which is black - if yours is light grey you can buy special dye from halfords thats pretty good (test an area 1st though).
You cant filler on top of this stuff and you cant sand it smooth - if youre goind custom then strip it off back to the pressed card support and metal frame, then you can skim with filler, fibrelgass and do all manner of weird stuff.
Thats my long term plan

there would be the centre heat controls, the glovebox compartment will go, and the side speaker and side vents, will look into the the taking everything off :o

Actually, it might be easier, taking white spirit to clean it, sand it with rough paper, drill holes everywhere and fibreglass it,
Sorry, i might have picked this up wrong, but how are you gonna work the heater controlls?

what heating
its all been ripped out, including all thge ducting, theres an internal fan that blows on the heater matrix with a simple on off switch, when its on the air still blows through the centre vents, so it'll be handy to keep them for when its really cold :)
lol
Best thging for a radical dash alteration like this is tpo remove the vynal covering totally back to the bare formed card.
Then skim with filler and smooth down.
once thats done, you can then cover the glove box with formed perspex or (if you go to B&Q warehouses) special flexible MDF that can be curved - v good stuff), then just resin over/skim over and sand down.
Best removing the vynal though - anything you oput near it resin/filler wise wont stick, will crack and look totally out of place.

I found a fun use for the wire brush on the drill ;)
