Probably the input shaft bearings on the gearbox.

clutch release bearing.... nice and simple

get a 3 piece clutch kit and repalce the lot while your there.

its a really easy job with a haynes manual (but tke the end cap off the gear box if you have a 5spd box)

i can do most nova clutches in about 30-45 mins lol

Wouldn't it be the clutch release bearing if it made the noise when the clutch was pressed down? Not when the pedal is released and up.
Or is it the other way round, lol.

"new" gearbox from a scrappy (if your worried that its your shaft bearings) ?30ish... + ?50 for a clutch kit.

a few hours of YOUR labour and job done.
