View Full Version : GSi rear bumper cracked - repair ideas?

Ok - just recieved a GSi rear bumper through the post which was damaged in transit.

It is split on the top right hand corner. (See below)

I am used to dealing with fibreglass bumpers, but as this is plastic, how do I go about repairing it?

well i dont know if this will work but the way i would try it is fibreglass on the inside bridging the gap the just body filler on the outside to smooth the crack over!

hope this gives you an idea!

Yeh that was the first thing I thought of, but don't know whether the fibreglass will bond properly to the smooth plastic...?

see i would only put the fibregalss on the inside as its hid! since its not on show you could roughen it up a little as it wouldnt matter as much!

plastic weld it...

melt it back together and skim it....

fibreglass like you said....


few options there for ya

get a smart repair company from out of yellow pages under car painters, chips away or something, hey will plastic weld it

cant you just rub down the inside then fiberglass it so it sticks then fill the outside?

just get a std mk2 bumper and have it painted and hey presto


not that your gonna notice a small cutout for a std gsi exhaust that prob wont even be there lol :lol:

you can also get flexible bumper repair paste. TBH youre best plastic welding it (you can actaully buy modelling cement that will melt this sort of plastic) then skim the outside. you can use fobreglass but I wouldnt bother. You could also use araldite (epoxy resin)

various options...

Or sue the courier company for damaged goods and get a new part!

Fiberglass - bridge it from the rear - leave to go off somewhere warm overnight them fill the crack if needed .
