Just bought this lightweight flywheel for my C20XE off ebay - but it doesn't look like my standard flywheel at all!!!

Why has it got the massive lugs on the side? - Will it fit?

All help appreciated.

Old flywheel:

New flywheel:

See what I mean?!

Its because its lightweight (not saying i know what the flywheel should look like) i'd assume its had unnecesary weight taken off, and the lugs at the side would be necesary as it obviously has bolts to go on, and would have to be at the same height as the other one, aslong as the lugs are the same height as the old one it should be good

Looks like it may be a 'late style' pot flywheel thats been lightened. Put it on the scales and see how much it weighs...

yer top one is a flat flywheel and bottom one is pot type

clutch pressure plate is different between them (flat pressure plate is heavier iirc)

agreed, top one is the early xe clutch plate.
bottom the late style one.

and to be honest, the early one is light enough.

if you wanted it lighter, would have been better getting it machine down.
ie holes cut into it

i wouldn't have any holes **** into your flywheel mate!!!

normally you remove the majority of material on the cast surface side, then have the opposite face where your clutch fits skimmed

you cut holes in and your clutch wont last long

'holes' are cut in it to balance the flywheel after it has been skimmed to save weight.

yeah but drilling holes willy-nilly will see your flywheel 'fly' through the gearbox at high rpm, where it is unbalanced.

Hmmmm.....

Thanks for the replies guys.

Looks like I have the wrong flywheel!

Anyone interested in buying it!!!???

Suppose I will be running the standard one for the moment then!

not into the face tho, they are driled into the o/d next to the teeth and are positioned and drilled specifically to balance it.
